Why toner empty error in samsung sf 565p

I have an SF-555P and have installed numerous cartridges. The last one was a Samsung brand and it didn't have the little fuse taped on the top. I never knew what this was fur until I had problems. When I first installed the new cartridge the "Toner Low" display remained lit. I shook the cartridge and it persisted but it printed well. Then about 100 pages later I got the "TONER EMPTY" and the printer stopped. After researching the issue I found that the fuse is actually a reset for the printer counter and when the new cartridge was installed without the fuse, it never reset.

You will need a 5X20 Fast acting fuse, no greater than 315 ma. You can buy a 4 pack from Radio Shack for about $3 (P N 2701046). Install it with a piece of electrical tape in the slot on the toner cartridge and make sure the contacts are exposed. The printer will blow the fuse and reset the counter. Don't use a bigger fuse, a slow-blow or anything that won't burn open quickly or you will be buying a new printer.
