You have mirror lock up. The most common cause is dead batteries so try replacing them.

As you have already tried new batteries there's no more you can realistically do.

The camera needs professional attention, but like most plastic-bodied consumer grade autofocus 35mm SLR's of the same period the camera body is almost worthless. Many of the electronic components will not be available and some were never available to start with as the camera was never designed with longevity or repairs in mind.

It's possible that all your camera needs is a CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) service, but in practice many repairers simply won't touch these kinds of cameras. If you find one who will, then there's still a high risk that part way through the job the repairer will find that a critical component is broken and cannot be replaced. If that happens you'll still be expected to pay for the work done.

If you choose not to go for a professional repair then you have nothing to lose by trying to jar the camera back into life by smacking the base plate down fairly hard onto a table a few times. Sometimes this frees off any components stuck by dried-out lubricant but won't work if the fault is due to a worn or broken part. This brute force method works best if you first leave the camera for a few hours in a warm airing cupboard or somewhere similar to soften up any gummed lubricants.

Realistically, your only fix is to replace the camera and sell yours advertised as being for spares or repairs (consider selling the lenses separately). If you wish to stay with 35mm film and want a model which lasts, look for the earlier generation of manual focus models. They work every bit as well and although many spares are unavailable for those as well, fewer faults are attributable to electronic components and the cameras are far easier to fix as they were designed to be periodically serviced. Note that your K-AF lenses are not back compatible with manual focus bodies, but as complete 35mm outfits are regularly offered on FreeCycle and Freegle it's not really a problem if you need to change from one major brand to another.

SOURCE: can't see anything through the view finder, i've

The mirror in the lens throat has locked in the up position. Mirror lockup can usually be cured by replacing the batteries.

EOS400D digital, I cant see the subject through the lens, I have taken the lens cover off

Hi Carol,
There are two things that I can think of which will prevent you from sighting through the view finder.
1. When your camera is switched on for live-view shooting mode or vice versa. That is, you can only see the subject in the LCD screen or through the view finder one at a time.
2. If you are using the LCD screen to frame your subject and you encounter this problem, it is most likely caused by the settings of the camera. Try increasing the ISO to around 400 or above, reduce the shutter speed to anything below 1/20 and the aperture to around F:5.6 or less (that depends on your lens.
Hope you resolve the problem by now but if you haven't try those tips.
Regards.

I can not get the telescope to focus. The viewfinder will not focus in. and can't see anything out of the out of the optical tube.

This type of telescope is viewed from the small tube at the rear. Use the longest lens you have. Most people think that they need magnification, but that is not accurate. A 5 mm lens will only have 1/6th the field of view (how much sky you see) compared to a 30 mm. The picture below was taken through a 50 mm lens.

I cannot see anything through the lens of my brand new 6 SE. What should I do?

During the day, point the telescope at a part of the landscape about 100 yards away. Use the lowest power eyepiece (highest number) in the focal tube. Center the landscape object in the telescope. Align the finder scope so that it points exactly where the main telescope is. At night, leave the scope out to reach thermal equilibrium (about an hour). Point the finder at the moon. The moon should be in the main scope also. Practice finding the moon before you start on the planets Once you are comfortable with the moon and planets, you can go for the deep sky objects

Just bought a Bushnell telescope 78-4501 - set it up as per the instructions. I can see objects light etc... through the object finder or view finder but I see nothing through the telescope not even...

This is not a real telescope, it is a toy. You will be lucky to see anything with the 20mm lens only. the rest are junk. The telescope needs to be collimated (see your manual) and the finder aligned with the telescope. Align the finder with the scope during the day, although this model was known for poor mounting on the finderscope and will become un-aligned easily.

I have lost manual Camera has battery but I only see black nothing when I look through the lens

If you cannot see anything looking through the view finder, that is either a lens problem, a defective view finder, or a faulty sensor.

For any of this faults you need a technician to fix the camera, call the Canon customer support number printed on camera documentation.

Try also removing the batteries and replacing with fresh ones, to exclude battery problem and to reset the camera, if there is really a fault this will not work, but you have to try.

Regarding the manual, you can download below.

The view finder is blac

I would guess your shutter is stuck closed, or the lens digitizer is faulty. Either problem will result in replacing your whole camera lens assembly. Sorry.
