Can't connect wifi with my NetGear WNR3500 Router

WNR3500 is installed and already working wirelessly with numerous items in the house (laptop, iPods, PS3). However, I cannot get my Compaq 6910p communicating with it whatsoever (except via Cat5 connection). I travel weekly, so connecting with wifi devices should not be a problem for me. However, when I attempt to connect to the router/SSID, it comes with a (never seen before) wifi setup wizzard, which asks for the SSID / device ownership password - which I provided. It then communicates with 3500 to get correct SSID / security (WPA2 Personal AES-CCMP) / and password-key. I then get the response "Failed to get the wireless settings". With the hundreds of other routers I've connected to, I simply click on SSID and plug in the encryption key. Can anyone help?
Many thanks, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

need to reconfigure wireless(only if you have vista or windows7 O/S)

    1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
    2. Access the router, usually by typing http://192.168.0.1' or http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
    3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
    4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
    5. changed SSID and also changed security key
    6. than try to reconnect again again from your laptop

What kind of wireless access point or extender should I use to project wifi in far bedrooms of a long, train-car like house?

Hi James, the wireless extender is the best way but you should go for the plug in type.....this plugs into the mains and gives you wifi and 1 wired connection, so you can plug into the room you want wifi to reach, I have linked a Netgear option but there are others! EX2700

What kind of wireless access point or extender should I use to project wifi in far bedrooms of a long, narrow house?

Yes. You are right on track with hard wiring the extender unit. You can also daisy chain another router to that at a distance that is closer to the furthest room. This will give you plenty of signal through out your house.

I have a netgear wndr3400 wifi route in use. It is located in my office at home. It is upstairs in the front of the house. My laptop is downstairs in the rear of the house. The system works but does drop...

WNDR3400 is a dual band WiFi router.
In case your Laptop has Wireless N card then you can can use Wireless N on WiFi else you need to use Wireless G.To enhance the Router performance Disable one WiFi Network on your Router(Either N or G) and configure Channel 11 for long range signals.
To configure said changed you need to login into Router (http://192.168.1.1 or http://10.0.0.1)Check IP address to find your router's IP address (Gateway address is the router address)Type User name and passwordDefault username and password for netgear routersUsername : admin Password : password
Goto wireless settings and disable one of the wireless network a per your requirements (N 0r G, if you have Wireless G adapter on your laptop then suggest you not to use Wireless N)Changed Channel - 11
Save settingsAnd reboot Router
Hope this helps

We purchased a netgear wgr614 wireless router and hooked it up thru my hp pavilion desktop so my husband could get my Earthlink DSL internet access on his Acer 5336 laptop. Since installing the router,...

Hi Leah,
If connecting your pc directly to the modem is faster. Definitely it is the routers fault. If it is still slow then it is your Earthlink DSL is faulty.
You can try reducing the MTU size (default is 1500). You can try these values 1492 or 1300 whichever works fine. You have to access the router's setup page to do this.
Click the link below on how to change the MTU size on a netgear router.

Connect iPod threw a wifi network

You need to enable wifi on your Ipod. Say you have a lynksys router at your house. Provided your router is working properly, you go to the settings menu on your ipod then your wireless routers name should automatically show up, then you tap connect and you should have internet access on your ipod.

My husband has Netgear in our house but i need an IP address for my lap top and Ipod, can you help me with that?

If your laptop has wireless card installed, turn on wireless radio of laptop. It will show the networks available and will allow you to create a new adhoc network. Try to create a new adhoc network and assign a new network name. It will broadcast an IP over adhoc network and you can connect other wireless device to the laptop using this adhoc network name.

Connection

Connect your broadband router to the netgear router, set your netgear router as "gateway" and put netgear's IP address as your DNS Server and Gateway in your laptop wifi connection.
