Faulty safety power cord...

I have a Haier window unit that is about a year old. During a power surge the safety power cord tripped and will not reset. I know the unit still works because when I hold down the reset button on the cord the unit will operate normally. Is there anyway to replace or bypass this saftey device without creating a fire hazard?

You can by-pass it by simply connecting the 2 wires together. Obviously the safety it is supposed to protect you from will not work, but it can get you by instill a replacement can be found. It seems like the surge burnt the coil out on the switch. If you are conscious of the heater and what its going ,you should be safe. They made these things a long time without a trip switch on the cord. It just requires some common sense.

I have an Amana PTAC ac 15000 BTU that has stopped, the power cord keeps tripping. I removed the power cord and plugged it in to the socket and the breaker did not trip, any clues. I'm thinking of jus

I think you've gotton your moneys worth with ten trouble free years. The power cords safety device is a bit more sensitive to a high resistive short to ground than your breaker is. I would suggest that there is exactly that: a high resistive short to ground within the cabinet of the PTAC. It has been years since I have been on a PTAC call and am unable to suggest specifics. But if you are competent and capable of using a DVOM, open up the unit and begin a systematic approach of determining the problem.

The FIRST thing I'd do is check the motor and the compressor with a digital megohmeter. Sometimes their problem will only show up with this sensitive device.

Frigidaire FRA 155MT1 melted the extension cord and surge protector

You must use a heavy duty power cord with this unit as it draws alot of amerage. Most regular extension cords csnnot handle the amperage and overheat or melt.

I have an Ifit treadmill. I was changing speeds and it turned off and won't restart. It beeps when i turn it on but no lights on console.

Power issues with ProForm treadmills fit into two categories: the power does not turn on or the power shuts off when using the treadmill. If the power will not turn on, make sure that the treadmill is plugged into a working power outlet. In addition, you should use a single-outlet surge protector for the treadmill. Single-outlet surge protectors protect the machine from any voltage changes that may occur in your home.

If the machine is plugged into a working outlet, make sure the safety key is in the keyhole on the console. If the safety key is not plugged into the machine or if it is pulled out during operation, the treadmill will not operate.

Finally, make sure the circuit breaker located on the frame near the power cord is set to "Reset." The circuit breaker is set to "Reset" if the top of the button is pushed in. When the breaker is tripped, push it back to the "Reset" position and wait five minutes before powering on the treadmill.

If the ProForm treadmill shuts off during operation, check the power cord and circuit breaker as described above. You can also try removing and reinserting the safety key.

Power surge caused wine cooler to quit cooling

Power surges, spike and brown-outs are a nemesis to small refrigeration units. The capacitor for the compressor likey was affected and possibly the start components in general, especially if the unit was operating when the surge occured.

Haier AC Won't start

I had the same problem with a different model. I tested the cord, it worked, but still would not turn on. Well, after two days my friend and I decided we would try to replace the battery in the remote---it worked! Try your remote battery.

Unit will not turn on when Electric current is on

There is no power to the unit, the power is fed from a spur switch which is usually placed next to the unit, it comes with a fuse. The spur switch is also fed from the MCB or the consumer unit which contains all the fuses supplying power to the appliances in the house.
Usually they are clearly marked, look for the one that supplies power to the air conditioner and check whether the circuit breaker is ON or OFF. If is off switch it on and if the breaker stays on, you have power and you can try switching on your unit and hopefully if there is no fault on the unit it should start up.
On the other hand if the circuit breaker doesn't stays on and it trips back automatically, am afriad there is an earth fault in the unit you need to call an experct to come and check the unit.
If the Breker stays on but the unit does not power up, check the fuse in the switch spur and if you dont have the test instrument to check the fuse, just replace it with a new one with the same amps rating that you are 100% sure that its working.Remember to press the reset button which is the safety device between the power cord and the unit.
Good luck.
