I am trying to rip a youtube video and i need to know what type of file i need to convert it to so it will play on my RCA opal mp3 player

i had te sameproblem, when conecting to the pc, if is recognized open the opal program, it should have lised among all the folders like: music, videos, etc one that says RCA EASY RIP thais th ONLY program that will convert the files to the correct format to play the videos. click on the set up, d followthe directions, easy to use. aftertht it will transfe the videos that you pick and they will play correctly, again ONLY this pogram work.

If you mp3 you can just drag and drop them into the mp3/4 player. However if you want vidoe's for it you need to convert them with this app and its free. http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm then just drag and drop the converted files. This works much better than the easy rip.

This player only plays SMV files. sigmatel micro files. You can use the easy rip software that came with the opal. I like to use this program. http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm It's a free app and does a much better job than the easy rip.

Log onto the RCA website and download the RCA SMV Video Converter. The Opal only plays videos that are in one specific format. This converter will put your videos into that exact format (see Resources below).

Install the RCA SMV Video Converter once you have downloaded the software.

Open the RCA SMV Video Converter software to begin putting videos onto your RCA Opal.

Connect the RCA Opal to your computer using the USB chord that came with the device.

Wait until the RCA SMV Video Converter software reads that the device has been connected. You will know this when the bottom of the software screen reads “Player Detected: Opal 1GB 2GB.”

Select the “Browse” option to find any videos that are on your computer which you wish to add to the RCA Opal.

Click the box next to “Transfer output files to OPAL 1GB 2GB after conversion is complete” after you have selected all of the videos which you wish to convert. This will automatically add the videos to your RCA Opal after they have been converted.

Click the “Convert” box after you have selected all of the videos. The videos will automatically begin to convert to the correct format. Once they have been converted, your videos will automatically upload to your RCA Opal.

That Opal's Easy Rip Software does not recognize Real Video format naturally. You may have to download a free program called Riva FLV Encoder to convert the Real Video files to AVI format. Once they are in AVI format, the Easy Rip software will recognize the file and convert them to your player. If you have lost your installation CD, you can get the Easy Rip software from:

Use a free program such as Riva FLV Encoder to convert the Real Video files to aVI format. Once they are in AVI format, the RCA Easy Rip software should recognize the video files, and you can use the Easy Rip software to convert/transfer them to your player.

This device will only play SMV files. You will need to download two free programs Any Video Converter. http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ And the other is http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm SMV converter.
Instally both programs. I use any video converter and changed it to mpeg. After the file is in mpeg then I use SMV converter. I do cutom use the largest screen format and highest on everything so its full screen. And the quailty is a heck of lot better the the easy rip free program. Give it a try and let me know if that works for you.

There are ways to work around the easy rip.
If its mp3's you want on it you can drag and drop them into the opal folder.
If you want smv video files you need to. you need two programs.

It lets you change all video formats to mpeg is the setting I like then after its an mpeg.
You use http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm (free Program)
It converts the files to smv (video file that Opal accepts)
