You do not. I am sorry but you need to return this faulty Nintendo DS. Hopefully you still have a warranty on this product but if not take it back and report problems with this product hope this helps good luck :D
Unfortunately the only way to unfreeze your DSI XL is to remove the battery for a minute and then put the battery back in and re power it. One thing I had to do was reset it like this every night before going to bed. that way I knew it would not freeze on me the next day. Otherwise you kinda leave it to chance.

DSl's hate water they die instantly!! Keep away from any liquids.
You will need a new motherboard at least to repair it, water damage is impossible to repair.
2 part answer! depending on whether your DS is freezing because of a game or without a game
1. if freezing when you insert a game it is most likely to be because of dirty pins in the game slot. to sort this try to scrub the pins clean with VERY FINE sand paper (clean gently to avoid bending pins they are reasonably delicate!!)
2. if freezing well into a game or without a game in the console, this can be caused by water damage to the motherboard.
if you can take off the back casing off the console you will be able to see the motherboard, look over it for white marks. if any are found gentley clean with circitboard cleaner and then dried immediatly! DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE other than cleaning fluids designed for electronic equipment or you will cause further "water damage".
