Your cd player is fubar and in definite need of replacement.
Tape unit seems to have a mind of its won. Try to reset the electronics to factory defaults. If that has no remedy, since it is a sony< best advise is to trash it. Repair cost is prohibitively expensive.

Tries it with other audio CD,if it have the same problems.Than the DVD player have a dirty laser eye scaner reader.Tries websites like Ebay.com,Amazon.com to buy a DVD player laser eye cleaner kit disc.
you need to remove the lid/cover expose the laser diode use a cotton bud wipe it clean,is this your only cd player in the house? and unstable mains power coming in can cause odd things to happen with cd's. the other thing is to add some lub to the motor that drives the cd spindle, again if this does not get up to speed it wont play properly.
It is clear symptoms of bad optical laser or dirty optical lens. Please put lens cleaning CD in player, play that CD to clean dust on optical lens surface. If that helps, fine or replace optical laser block in player. I can provide you optical lens part number, please confirm is it Sony CDP-CX153 cd player or any other model. Thanks.
Try and reset it . disconnect battery under the hood for like 5 min and see what happens ..I had that radio and sometimes its just tempermental . take cd out and try it ? Sre any buttons stuck ? If that doesnt work then hopefully u like your cds at the volume they are at . Good luck
If so, the cd is being ripped to your computer that way; that would explain why. If that is not the case, maybe try a different ripping speed. If the ripping program you're using has that option
Sony say in the manual that if you record high bit-rate mp3's the sound may be intermittent.
I feel this is due to the decoder having to move ALOT of bits around to play, try some makeing a disk with mixed rate mp3's on.
e.g.) some 64Kbps, some 128, some 192, and some as high as you can get and see if there is any differ
