My Insignia CD player says there's no disc when there is.

sound like you need to clean the laser reader inside get you self a lense cleaning disc.

There could be several reasons why it would do this. Try very carefully cleaning the lens on the later if its dirty or has finger prints. Beyond that there isn't much you can do.

Check whether the inserted CD spins inside your unit or not. If it spins, and the set does not recogonize the disc, the laser pickup assembly has the trouble and should be replaced with same type and number. If it does not spins, the sled motor, the motor that spins the disc, is faulty and should be replaced. OK.

Error 1.Battery inside CD Changer needs to be replaced.
Error 2.CD error message. Mechanism has as eject problem or takes a long time to select CD.
Error 3.CD error message. The pick-up is out of focus during play mode due to scratches on the disc or contamination.
Error 4.Connection problem. Reconnect the data cable.
Error 5.CD error message. Could not read correct data due to CD ROM.
Error 6.CD error message. Could not read data from disc because it is upside-down.

For error code 6:
Try an original purchased cd with no scratches and see if the cd player reads it. If yes then lens is dirty or tired so try using a cleaning cd(has little brushes on it). If it doesn't read with the original cd try using the cleaning cd and if no go then look at purchasing a new cd player!

try clean the lens with cotton buds gently/smoothly...try audio cd or vcd to play if it will play and not playing if the disc is dvd...lens for replacement partially burnt

I have owned insignia dvd players in the past. When I got the "no disc" message I simply cleaned the inside of the machine. To do this you can get an old CD and tape a soft paper towel to a fragment of the readable side. Then insert the cleaning CD into the machine (do no use liquids) and let it run a few times. I found that after I did this a few times it seemed to clean the lens and would read discs again..

Be careful how you use this, but u can utilize canned air to blow out the debris from your player.
get a laser lens cleaner kit from walmart or something, it will cleans your laser lens inside the dvd player for you, if the canned air and laser lens cleaner doesn't work, your last resort is to completely unplug the player to see if it resets itself, if none of those works i would turn the player in under warranty or take it back to the store.
