Will the xbox 360 wireless network adapter work with a dongle internet network.

it would not work as the console is designed to work with a special type of adapter that detects wireless network. besides most dongle internet network require you to install some sort of dial-up program on your system to connect before it can be linked up with the internet and this is not possible on the xbox 360.
you can purchase any of the compatible adapters from ebay.com or from the website if you prefer.
hope this helped you? please comment if you need more info.

Setup your Xbox to a Wireless Network

Xbox game consoles can be connected <span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span> to a router<a href="http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/routers/g/bldef_router.htm"></a> for wireless access to the Internet and Xbox Live. Follow these instructions to set up the Xbox or Xbox 360 connections to a wireless home network.<br /><br /> <ol> <li>Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter<a href="http://compnetworking.about.com/od/hardwarenetworkgear/g/bldef_adapter.htm"></a> to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet sometimes also called a wireless network bridge must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi <i>game adapters</i> that connect to a USB port.<br /><br /></li> <li>Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -&gt; Network Settings -&gt; Advanced -&gt; Wireless -&gt; Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -&gt; Network Settings -&gt; Edit Settings."<br /><br /></li> <li>Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.<br /><br /></li> <li>Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)<br /><br /></li> <li>Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard MS Xbox Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.<br /></li> <li>Save your settings and verify the network is functional.<br /><br /> On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.<br /><br /> On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.</li></ol> Tips: <ol> <li>Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. Configure XBOX with Media Center

Windows Media Center setup on your Xbox 360 Begin by connecting your Xbox 360 to your home network. The Introduction to Home Networking guide on the Xbox website will provide information if you're setting up a network for the first time or if you need some guidance for adding the Xbox 360 to your existing home network.

Once your Xbox 360 is connected to your network, begin the Windows Media Center setup process by pressing the green button on your remote control (if you have one), or use your game controller to select the Media Center option from the Media tab in the Xbox 360 on-screen menu.

You are asked if you want to connect your Xbox 360 to a PC running Windows Media Center in Windows Vista. Select the Media Center option to continue.

Once your Windows Vista-based PC has been detected, your Xbox 360 will display an eight-digit code. Write down this code on a piece of paper, and then go to your Windows Vista-based PC.
Note: When connecting to a Windows Vista-based PC, you do not need to select Continue or download additional software.
Add your Xbox 360 as an Extender to your Windows Vista-based PC Important: During the setup process, the Windows Firewall is automatically configured to enable your Windows Media Center Extender to connect to your Windows Vista-based PC. If you're using extra security software that includes a non-Microsoft firewall, you may need to manually configure your firewall to ensure a successful setup and connection.

With your eight-digit code in hand, begin by selecting Windows Media Center from the Start menu in Windows Vista. From the Windows Media Center menu, select Tasks, and then select Add Extender. This will begin a simple, step-by-step path that will add your Xbox 360 to your Windows Vista-based PC. During this setup process, you will be asked to provide the eight-digit setup key you received from your Xbox 360.
Click through this preview of the setup to familiarize yourself with the process.

The Extender Setup screen provides an introduction of the steps you'll go through to add an Extender to your Windows Vista-based PC. Click Next to start the process.

Enter the eight-digit setup key you received from your Xbox 360 (the one that you wrote down on your piece of paper, right?), and then click Next.

The setup process will need to make changes to your Windows Vista-based PC settings to establish the connection to the Xbox 360. Click Next to continue.

Review the information provided about Away Mode. Make your selection, and then click Next.

The setup process will ask if you would like to share media with the Extender. Select Yes (recommended) to share media folders, and then click Next. If you are using User Account Control, you'll see a User Account Control dialog box that will seek your permission to run the Windows Media Center Extender Configuration. Select Continue to grant permission.

Your PC will now go through the remaining steps to configure itself and establish the connection to your Xbox 360.

That's it! You're done! When you're finished with the PC setup, go back to your Xbox 360, and start enjoying access to all of the digital entertainment stored on your Windows Vista–based PC through your Xbox 360.
Optimize your home network The quality of your entertainment experience, especially video playback, is dependent on having a reliable and high-performance home network. To help ensure the best performance, we recommend that you run the Windows Media Center Extender Network Performance Tuner during the setup process on your PC. The Network Tuner provides very specific feedback on your network, as well as tips to solve any potential problems.
You can click through the preview of the Network Performance Tuner to familiarize yourself with the process.

The Network Performance Tuner runs diagnostics on your home network and provides feedback on potential issues that would make your Windows Media Center experience less than optimal.

When analyzing the network, the Network Tuner provides specific feedback based on all of the components connected to your network.

The Network Tuner provides feedback on the types of media that your network may have trouble handling effectively and suggests corrective actions than can help to solve the problem

The Network Tuner also looks for performance issues related to how your network is set up. In this case, the fact that the Windows Vista-based PC and the Xbox 360 are both connected wirelessly to the router may cause performance issues. You'll only see these warnings screens when the Network Tuner has detected a problem.

Real-time feedback is offered through the Network Tuner, so you can see if the adjustments you make to your network improve the performance.

Xbox 360 is not detecting the network adaptor. light is constant red. also, the xbox will not let me configure the wireless network.

the problem is that your xbox rejects the adapter. try another adapter or try plugging it in to another port. I cannot for sure say its your xbox but it may be the adapter so try another one. if it works your adapter is not sending any information to your xbox and cannot be used. if it doesn't your xbox wont accept any hardware. to be sure its your xbox try connecting it through a ethernet cable. if it works your xbox cannot connect to that adapter..

My Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter stopped working.

Shut off your console and unplug everything.

Connect the adapter then connect the console back together...Turn on console......Go to network configuration...Make sure u are connecting the adapter from the back!

If you are not able to achieve a connection for several attempts this means your should check warranty status for the adapter also.........If you unplugged it while the console was one you could of shocked the cable an blew the fuse.......Normally when u detach any components with a usb port u should alway make sure every thing is shut off before so.

Connect to wireless

I believe the X-Box does NOT have Wifi built in? (sic)Surprisingly, the Xbox 360 doesn't have wireless networking built in. If you don?t fancy using the wired Ethernet method, you can invest in a wireless networking adapter. Microsoft has its own adapter specifically designed for the Xbox 360, but third-party Wifi-certified devices will work just as well.(sic) From the below site. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:d7LlkY7Zo1sJ:www.vnunet.com/personal-computer-world/hardware/2147007/microsoft-xbox-360+xbox+360+wifi+is+built+in%3F&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2 So that may be ya problem?
