I bought a used trolling motor (motorguide brute 750 50# thrust) it has a 12-24 volt selector switch and three wires to hook up to battery, a black, a white, and a red. i'm assuming on 12v setting of switch black to + and red to - terminals when i do this the motor doesn't spin when it should. am i doing something wrong?

The black wire goes to - and the red goes to + for 12 volts. If you want 24 volts you need to add another battery and run a jumper wire from the - of the first battery to the + of the second battery and hook the white wire to the - of the second battery. Here is a picture to help you.

SOURCE: Ihave a motorguide brute hyper 67 trolling motor

This is most often caused by a faulty 24 Volt, section, (usually damaged output semiconductors, or the drive?) in the speed controller, fault, the only "Fix" is replacement. Simply obtain the entire speed controller and replace it "En Bloc" as it were. You will need to also obtain a service manual so you can disassemble it and obtain the parts numbers for the replacement parts.Otherwise take it to a professional and ask for a "Quote" as to prospective costings and go from there.

I have a Motor Guide Brute 767, 67 lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor. It will only run at about half speed even with new batteries.

I believe you may have a bad low voltage circuit board problem. I do not think they make the board any longer but you may be able to convert it to work by bypassing the circuit board. I am working on one now.

Wring for trolling motor

just hook the two batteries up in series. To do this buy one short cable and use it to hook the positive of one of the batteries to the negative pole of the other. Then use the two remaining poles, one positive and one negative to hook up to the motor. good luck
