With the freezer door open, depress the flap on the left. Does the flashing stop? If so, the Ice maker is the problem, not he optics. With the flap depressed is the only way you can test this. Solid light mean good, one flash and a pause means cycling, 2 flashes and a pause means faulted optics. Now for the ice maker, what position are the harvest fingers sitting at? At 2 O'clock the Ice maker is parked, At 12 it should fill with water so if the fingers are in any other position than 2 O'clock than the ice maker will not cycle at it can't. Its possible that the ice maker have a broken gear and will not function as designed. Get back to me if you need more information and a model number would be great. Good Luck
Means that the laser eye is not making contact with the other side. Push in the plastic flapper and see if the light goes out. If not replace the laser eyes. If it is making ice it is probably working fine. It ususlly blinks when you open the door.
2 blinks and a pause means your optics are good . Most of the time the ice maker is bad and needs replaced . Put about 2/3 cup of water in the ice maker and if it dumps , replace the water inlet valve AND check the black fill tube which fills the ice maker to see if it is frozen . If so , this is also an indication of a seeping ( leaking not closing completely ) water valve .
the red blinking light is normal . it sounds like you have a whrilpool, kitchenaid or kenmore made by whirlpool. if your ice-mkr fingers are not resting in the 2 o'clock position, then your
I/M motor/module is broken. use part#8201515
sounds like your ice maker heater may not be working, as there is no way to repair the heating element but to replace it with a new ice maker, you can probably jump the ice maker by removing the front cover of it
here is a link with more instructions good luck http://www.davesrepair.com/DIYhelp/DIYicemakertips.htm
first if you take off that panel there is a circuit board . unlpug the board and put it back to gether if that dont work then replace it... i sometimes get away with both! i can also get you that part pretty cheap... here is my site. grab the number and give me a call thanks.
Most likely a problem with the main ice making unit itself. I bought mine at ebay for $49 including shipping. Very simple to replace. You just swap the wiring harness and bottom plate. Takes about 20 minutes to do. Make sure you do the IR led test. If you think you IR sender and receiver are bad to, $57 on ebay for the set. Most likely not your water solenoid in the lower back of frig (it gets the signal to turn on from the receiver module of the IR board. Probably not your water filter (cuz the front water dispenser still probably works right?) And probably not a clogged or frozen line. Good luck. When it doubt, trust ebay!
The ice maker is drawing to much amperage from somewhere. Is this a free standing ice maker or in a refrigerator. If free standing then it will go through a dump cycle and dump the water out of the reservoir and refill. Then the compressor will come on and that will trip the breaker if it has a weak motor or if it is locked up. You can purchase a hard start at an appliance parts store for $20 to $30 to see if this will help the compressor before replacing it. If it is inside a refrigerator the module motor on the front of the ice maker is shorted and needs to be replaced. Again at an appliance parts store you can get for about $90 you will need the model number located inside the refrigerator.
Answer provided to me, by KitchenAid customer service:
"Thank you for taking the time to write with your inquiry and concern regarding your appliance
Your emails are extremely important to us and would like to apologize for any delays in responding to them. We are working diligently to replying to all of our customers.
The blinking red light that you reported is normal. Your refrigerator uses an infrared beam of light to detect the level of the ice in your ice bin. Because this beam is not visible to the naked eye, a red LED light will blink every time the refrigerator checks the ice level. This may happen when the door is opened, but it is merely an indicator that it is functioning properly.
If you have any other questions or concerns about your KitchenAid appliances, please don't hesitate to let us know. You can reach us by replying to this message, or by calling us toll-free at 1-800-422-1230."
