Verify that you have a dial tone,

Verify that you have an ANALOG phone line, not DIGITAL

Check the phone number of the fax maching you are trying to send to.
Call the fax number with your phone (not fax machine) and confirm that a fax tone sequence is trying to sync.... If you get a "Hello" .. then you have a wrong fax number...

E100 means that you have laser trouble, probably laser pcb is bad. Replace it.
But also check the laser shutter.

Error code344 shows that The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the product because the connection was interrupted.The remote user has pressed the Stop button while the remote machine was receiving.
Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

It could be a refilled Kyocera KM-F650 cartridge in a Panasonic UG-5510 box.

They look identical, but are configured differently.

You need to try another cartridge as it appears it is not a machine problem.

You need to service machine and may be your fixing unit is problem

I realise this is an old question but I recently had a similar issue with our MFC-5860CN not receiving faxes and displaying the "Mn1" code. As it turns out "Mn1" means the machine is set to manual receive and was therefore not automatically receiving faxes. You will need to locate the "Receive Mode" option in the menu and change it to "Fax Only" or "Fax / Tel". Unfortunately I dont know what could have caused the turning off and on that the OP mentioned. I'm a little late to the party but I hope this info can help someone else!
