Purchased a new Dell Inspiron 6000 (9 cell) battery

Purchased a new Dell Inspiron 6000 9 cell battery and it charges fine and shows 5 hours and 99% charge when fully charged. Works Ok for about 3 hours until about 30% charge remaining and then justs shuts down. When plugged back into power, it shows 28% charge remaining but just shuts down again until charged up (no warnings, just dies immediately). Any ideas on action required?

Have a look in your power properties and see the settings. They may be set at when battery reaches 30% The computer shutsdown. You can change the settings to your own preferance.

Dell Inspiron 6000 (approx 4 years old) has an issue with the power cord internal connection? Battery and Power cord/adapter are fine. Computer constantly switches from battery to AC when powered on. ...

The input jack that is soldered to the motherboard (where the AC jack plugs in) probably has a cold solder joint. Thus the laptop switches from battery to AC power. You can try to have the solder joints
re-soldered.

Dell Inspiron 6000 won't charge

Since you have already replaced the battery and the laptop works with the AC charger, then probably the charge circuit in the system board (mother board) is bad. I have rarely seen an AC charger that will power the laptop but not charge the battery. 99% of the time, if it is not the battery, it is the system board.

Yep, Id get another battery if I was you. I bet it runs down pretty fast too. sounds like one of the cells in the battery is dying.
Now if this is a new generic battery off ebay or an Amazon type store then those typically dont last very long so it could still be a dead cell. To get a good as OEM battery you usually either need to spend the bucks or rebuild it yourself. I dont suggest trying to do that unless you are really into electronics and soldering etc.

New aftermarket Inspiron 6000 battery will not power the Laptop

I would say that the power management portion of the system board is probably faulty if it behaves the same with both the factory battery and the aftermarket.

Many systems have the charge controller and battery interface on a separate board but unfortunately on the Inspiron 6000 it's integrated.

FYI, Here's a copy of the service manual for that system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not,
Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not,
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

Dell Inspiron 6400 - Battery replacement

Depends on your use. The 9 cell will hold a charge for about 2 hours, depending on your configuration and the 12 I believe is 3-4.

Labtop not charging

Try removing the battery and see if the laptop powers on. If it still doesn’t power on then either the motherboard is defective or the AC adaptor may have a broken wire in the cable.

You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
