After changing the black cartridge it now displays this message. Have tried shutting down and restarting printer,btw.. off button doesn't turn it off, there appears to be NO paper jams. Removed and replace all the ink cartridges.. to no avail.. still get the message .. cannot initiate. :(

Unable to init

Check the small Plastic ribbon which goes from left to right of the machine when you are looking at the printhead and there should be dirt somewhere. clean it carefully and it will work

Brother DCP-115C printer unable to init.

Here's what the manual states in the troubleshooting section:

Unable to Change
Unable to Clean
Unable to Init
Unable to Print
Unable to Scan

The machine has a mechanical problem.
-OR-
A foreign obstacle such as a clip or ripped
paper is in the machine.
Open the scanner cover and remove
any foreign obstacles inside the
machine. If the error message
continues, disconnect the machine
from the power source for several
minutes then reconnect it.

..if not mistaken, the error message is Unable to clean, which indicate you will need to replace the waste ink pad and reset the waste ink counter.. you will need to send to the local service centre to get it done..

Unable to clean message in brother dcp-115c aio

I saw on this site codes for another MFC to clear memory and reset the cleaning unit count code to zero. It worked on two of my brother mfc 820cw units. The third mfc 5840cn had unable to print error message 46- nothing at Brother. they want you to take everything to a repair shop.they don't help at all. Then the error went to 4F when I tried toclear the memory. As Iunderstand that message- it means I have to replace the printer head. Have no clue where or what it is. But I can read a manual as well as anyone and follow directions to fix it! Can't be worse than it is now! Good luck
