Try another windows xp disk or burn another copy of the disk you have. it's also possible that there's a problem with the optical drive that you're using.

No audio driver

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, thesupport download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operatingsystem. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

XP cannot find disk

If you are installing this on a PowerEdge 2600, you will have difficulty installing XP, as this is a server and drivers will be scarce, not the least of which will be the RAID controller (PERC 4/Di). If you had it, you would need to load the driver at the F6 prompt just after booting to the Windows disk.

Poweredge 1800 server

Hey,

I looked over the spesifications for the poweredge 1800 servers, go ahead, it will work perfectly but there is one problem in the windows XP setup, you will need to insert / load SCSI or SATA drivers for the hard drive With a floppy disk, or if you don't have a floppy drive your going to need to create a custom windows xp setup cd and add the drivers into it so it can start the SCSI or SATA hard drive and finish the install. without the drivers it might not find the hard drive.

Aside from that I don't see any other problems. You should be able to get the drivers, and everything ese from dell site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/

Actually I looked over the dell downloads, I see only windows 2000 on the list with windows server 2003, and 2008 and linux distributions.

This could be a 2nd problem, drivers might not be avaialble, or work with xp, but we might be able to get it to work.

So two problems, SCSI or SATA drivers in windows xp / windows 2000 setup

2nd problem is in windows xp drivers, you could try windows 2003's drivers and 2000's and see if they work, if not, then we would have to look for drivers ourselfs from the internet.

So xp might cause headache but we might get it working, windows 2000 seems to be supported perfectly.

Let me know how the project goes
Thanks,
Ekse

Dell poweredge 1600 sc XP install

I believe you would need to install the Serial ATA card driver before installing windows. When you first start Xp it asks if you have any ATA drivers that need to be installed first.    My guess, since it is used, that you have not the driver for that card?    Give us the make and model of that card and we can help look for the driver,or take it out all together and use an IDE hard drive.

NO Audio out put

dell2_bing.gifpoweredge servers are not needed for sound. DELL support will notsupport any sound cards or care anything about your audio issues. Youwill not find audio drivers because again, a server's purpose has nothing to do with audio.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET WINDOWS XP TO LOAD ON THE DELL 2600 POWEREDGE SERVER IT ONLY OFFERS SERVER 2000 AND SERVER 2003 AND I CANT USE EITHER OF THEM THANKS MIKE

Hi tham01,

First off, if the server has raid already setup, you will need to go into lsi logic to format the drives so you can install XP. Once the drives have been initiated from the server bios, just place XP in the CDROM, and shouldn't have a problem loading on the 2600 POWEREDGE SERVER. If your trying to install it with the Dell quick install disk, you can't!!! Install it on it's own without the Dell Disk.

Good Luck!

Mark
