My new BB Bold 9700 battery suddenly drained while plugged in?!?!

My new (less than a week old) BB Bold 9700 just stopped working. It was working fine this morning. I left it plugged in at home all day then realized it wasn't working when I checked it after dinner. No response to any keys pressed. Took the battery out and waited a couple minutes before putting it back. Still nothing. Plugged it back in and got a solid red light in the upper right, but nothing else.
Plugged it into the computer via the USB cord to see if I could at least backup to my computer, and a battery symbol with a lightning bolt came up on a white background. But it still wouldn't respond to anything and the desktop manager didn't recognize the phone.
Opened "my computer" and found the device listed there. Double clicked it and the phone suddenly started loading its OS, as if it had just been re-booted. It now appears to be working, although it is telling me I have a low battery. And there is a multi-colored light flashing in the upper right, now. (It is really strange... half red/half green flashing light.) The battery symbol is a red outline with a thunderbolt in the upper left corner now...
I wonder if keeping it plugged in somehow harmed the battery? It was almost fully charged last night, and the battery seemed to be working normally until now...
Anyone have any suggestions besides to simply get a new battery?

Keeping it plugged in shouldn't have hurt the battery. i would return it if you have a warrenty left... otherwise i would connect to bb desktop mngr and reset to factory settings.(origional settings your phone came with)

My 9700 is rebooting every 2min

Take the battery out of the back and make sure the litmus paper isn't pink. Then reboot and attach your BB to a computer and make sure you have the latest software via Blackberry Desktop Manager. If that doesn't work and the phone is less than a year old I would probably get a warranty replacement.

I can't pair my plantronics 510 BT earpiece to my new bold 9700. but I can pair to my old BB and can pair other stuff to the 9700, so know that both devices work...just not together.

You might want to check which version of the the BlackBerry system software you are using.
Having the latest version will ensure that you are running a platform with as many bugs worked out as possible.

Blackberry sound not working

Same problem here with a BlackBerry 8830. Elsewhere found a solution for another model that worked for mine:

1) Plug in headset.
2) Turn off BB.
3) Remove phone battery.
4) Reinstall battery and let phone restart.
5) Remove headset.
