People are giving away their older TV's as they upgrade to new wide flat-screens nowadays. That makes your TV not worth fixing. Keep checking Craigslist and your local thrift stores for one that's cheap or being given away.
Check the convergence IC's for cold solders, check for leaking capacitors in the area. Check the voltage regulator with a Variac.
Usually these sets just need the 2 big convergence IC's replaced with new ones. Clean all 3 picture tube lenses, mirror and screen. Get the original RCA remote that came with the set and MANUALLY align the convergence.
Rarely the bow on the bottom of the screen is not repairable.
this problem is connected with your horizontal control. if you can bring it to your tv repairman and see if the horizontal board can be repaired or replaced this is what i have found on many older models due to heat build up in the case.

that will have to be a dealer orderd item.. Unless you can find one used. I would try the tv shops in your area , they may have a used mitsubishi screen
I had one broken a few months ago. I got a couple quotes.. it was about $200 less then a brand new one. I'd just buy a new one.
For the new TV I'd pickup a screen protector for it. My son threw a toy at my TV the other day and I nearly had a heart attack from the flashbacks. Thank God I picked up one of these a few weeks earlier. It stopped it. http://www.tv-armor.com

my son cracked our screen protector and instead of paying two or three hundred dollars to replace it we had plexy glass cut at Lowes and put velcro striping around the edges and looked as good as the original and has held up great for five years now.
