Window media player wont recognize my burner

My cd burner is installed and was working great. my son downloaded itunes for his ipod. ever since then when i go to burn a cd, windows media player says to "install a burner and restart the player." i checked the properties of the burner and my computer says it is working properly. now i can burn cd's thru nero. so the burner does work. just not thru windows media player anymore. nero is a lot slower of a process. i would really prefer to burn it thru windos. what went wrong.

This does indeed seem to be the well documented upper & lower filters issue that nliwilson has posted the fix for. It's worth noting that if you follow the instructions nliwilson has provided a link to you can usually just delete both filters and restart your PC rather than editing them, when windoze restarts it'll (hopefully) repair the registry by reasserting the default values. Obviously as Microsoft know about as much about building a good OS as pigeons know about building a fire engine windoze will do what it's supposed to about 7 times out of 10.

photofreakoo, good on you for trying but think about it, even when you have your default printer set up you can still use your other printers by selecting them from the list, they don't just stop working.
In exactly the same way regardless what your default burning software is you can still use other burning software ad-hoc (registry issues not withstanding obviously!).

Not seen this issue for a while, updating you're CD burning software from the vendors web-site is sometimes enough, as affected CD burning programs where patched to resolve it.
But if not Apple have plain-English instructions for fixing this issue in Windows XP here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976

I take it from the Not Helpful rating that the upper and lower filter fix did not help?
You mentioned that you can still burn using Nero and if that is the case I'd be willing to bet that you can burn with iTunes, can youĀ confirmĀ this for us?

If that is the case that narrows it down to a media player issue, you have mentioned that you have checked the burner'sĀ properties so go back toĀ properties and tell us what make and model burner is mentioned.

Sometimes a firmware update for the burner can resolve an issue like this and sometimes these issues are down to Windows Media Player (as with all Microsoft products it is a poor quality program that looks pretty), remember thatĀ Media Player is updated quite often and that Microsoft updates can as easily 'brake' they're software as it can fix it.

Maybe somewhere a long the line, it set itune as a default when ever you want to burn.just like a printer, if you have two, the computer want to know which one you prefer. check it out to see if that is what going on.

i never say that you could not use any printer or they wont work, well in this case a burner,it just want you to select which one you want it to use.

I want to down load music from windows media player to my ipod but don,t no how to

Hi darin68...
Windows media player will not download music to your ipod...you will have to download and install Itunes to download music to your Ipod.
Windows media player uses WMA files, and Apple Ipod uses ACC files...
You will need to change your songs from WMA to ACC files using this free file converter located on the following webpage.
After you convert your songs and download them to I tunes then plug in your Apple Ipod and Itunes will open and will also recognize your Ipod.

I use windows media player to put music on my ipod and it says that it is syncinh and when i plug in back in to the computer it shows all of the sons on it but they wont play...?

You need to have iTunes installed on your computer. It's a free download from Apple. Load your CD's into iTunes or buy songs from the Apple iTunes Music Store. Then You need to do a 'Restore'. Connect your iPod with the cable that came with it to the USB port on your computer. In iTunes, click and (Restore). This will rebuild all the software on the iPod and sync your songs from iTunes.
It works much better than WMP

My Computer and iTunes does not recognize my iPod

Have you tried installing the ipod program cd from your ipod on a separate file. Under a different username? It may be conflicting with the older model ipod protocols. If that dosen't work try going to apple.com for further assistance.
