Daylight Savings Times Changed

I have an older model clock radio (ck s2288) and now that daylight savings times have changed, is there a way to reset to correspond with the new dates-times?

We set the time zone to '7' , which is Hawaii time zone where there is no change for daylight savings. This came up because it changed automatically on this morning...and although we can change it back, then it won't change next week when it should. So we're hoping that by setting it to Hawaii it will be a regular clock, we will do the changing...but at least we won't be surprized as we were this AM.

How do I get my smart alarm clock to reset itself automatically since the goverment changed the daylight savings time? Or, if I buy a new one will it have the new time changes?

The Daylight Saving Time settings are not user controlled, so you cannot convert the changeovers to the new schedule - you can only change the time manually. Any new clock or clock radio with automatic settings will work on the new schedule.

Can't solve it but the clock doesn't know the government changed when daylight ends.

Emerson Research SmartSet Clock Radio

There is a solution for this already. You can reprogram the clock to use the new DST settings.

Emerson Research SmartSet Clock Radio

There was a sheet of paper that came with my clock explaining how to adjust the daylight savings time settings, but I lost it.  Anyone have theirs?  All i know is it requires that you press an awkward combination of buttons simultaneously, but that's it.

Emerson Smartset Radio Model CKS2288

The Daylight Saving dates appear to be hard-coded per the manual:

Start of Daylight Saving Time:
At 1:59.59 AM on the first Sunday in April, the clock will automatically advance to 3:00 AM.
End of Daylight Saving Time:
At 2:59.59 AM on the last Sunday in October, the clock will automatically reset to 2:00 AM.

So the easiest thing to do is to change your time zone up or down one for the period between the new DST date and the old -- or you can buy a new SmartSet for about $15. The newer ones do not have the same problem.

Daylight Savings Times Changed

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio (cks5055s):
  • This should work for all Smartsets, but I cannot make the guarantee (and no, I don't have any other directions, sorry)!
  • Adjusting the DST Start Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'start' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "4 F" (April and first week week) and "4. 1".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the DOWN (or "-") button 3 times, until the display is showing "3" (March) and the week as "F2". It should alternately flash "3 F2" and "3. 11".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself
  • Adjusting the DST End Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM2 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'end' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "10 L" (October and last week week) and "10. 28".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the UP (or "+") button 1 time, until the display is showing "11" (November) and the week as "F". It should alternately flash "11 F" and "11. 4".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself
One thing to note, if you ever have to change the lithium backup battery for the Smartset clocks, it will revert back to it's factory defaults and you'll have to go through his all over again.

Daylight saving time issues

I picked this up from the Emerson Website Read below before going to the link. Try thi link: and poke around the website http://www.fox-international.com/emerson/ Important Notice About Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Emerson SmartSet® Clocks and Clock Radios Congress recently passed a new Energy Bill which includes a provision to extend Daylight Savings Time. At the beginning of 2007, Daylight Savings time will begin on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. Because of this change your SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio will need to be updated. In order to set your unit we will need the following information from you: 1. Model Number You can find your model number on the back or bottom of your unit. (Click here for an example) 2. Serial Number You can find your serial number on the back or bottom of your unit. (Click here for an example) Based on this information we can identify which setting is necessary to adjust your unit for compliance with day light savings. There are three possible groups your SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio could fall into: Group One changes the time zone to a previous time zone. Group Two adjusts for the spring and fall settings. Group Three is already set for 2007 daylight savings compliance. Group identification begins with your serial number. The first three to four digits of the serial number represent the year and month of manufacture. (If your serial number begins with 0607, that would indicate July 2006, 506 would indicate June 2005.) Models manufactured before January 2006 (serial number 506, 512, etc.) will follow Group One settings. Models manufactured between January 2006 and July 2006 (serial number 0601, 0603, etc.) will follow Group Two settings. Models manufactured after July 2006 (serial numbers beginning with 0608) are Group Three and do not require any changes. If you believe you have a Group One model, please click here. If you believe you have a Group Two model, please click here. If you cannot determine which Group your model may be in, please call us at 1-800-526-7521.
