Burning out resistor R517

I have very little experience with electronics, so please dumb down your answers. I'd like to fix it myself, since that's how I handle most my problems. I can solder without a problem.

I bought the TV secondhand, when you turn it on, it makes a loud buzzing and cuts off after a couple seconds. The previous owner had a handyman come and look at it, it had a bad resistor, they replaced it and tried again, it just did the same thing. I got the TV opened it up and found that it's R517 that's blown. I have a new resistor, but unsure which direction it's supposed to go. Also before I turn it on, what else should I look for so I don't just blow another resistor. Again, absolute beginner so please dumb down the answers.
