On the back of your thermostat, you should have a R (Red), W (White), G (Green), Y (Yellow), and a C (Common). If you have a thermostat that also has a set up for a heat pump, you will have additional terminals, but you don't have to use them since you have a 4 wire, ( in case you do, make sure your thermostat is set up for 1 heat, 1 cool). Your wires are all color coded besides the blue. Red to R, Green to G, and so on. Your Blue wire is being used for Yellow which will go to the Y terminal. Blue is usually meant for a common, but with only having a 4 wire, that's the color that was used. Red is your power, Green is your fan, White is your heat, and Yellow is your A/C. Hope this helps clear some stuff up and good luck!
Thank you Brandon for posting that. My mom's thermostat had been messing up for quite some time and I finally got tired of her house being cold so I went and bought a new thermostat. I did tape the wires off but the thermostat I purchased had different terminals than her old one. The old one was a White-Rogers and the new one is a Hunter one that I purchased at Wal-Mart and for anyone else that gets the same thermostat I do and run into issues, here is how it needs to be wired: Red wire - RH Terminal, Blue Wire - Y/O Terminal, White Wire - W/B Terminal and Green Wire - G Terminal. Here is a link to a site that ultimately helped me figure out what to do with the Red wire:http://dl.owneriq.net/4/41f43626-abfe-45... Make sure to look at page 4 and that will explain the rest of the steps as mentioned previously on what color wire to put in which terminal.
