Whenever i turn on the tv, after a little while, the overview of menus appear, and when i close it, it constantly keeps appearing which is not letting me watch the tv.i also tried turning the tv off and back on but it didn't work.it is a philips 42"plasma tv w/ambilight.please let me know what to do!

Turning Closed Caption Off or On

Depending on which type of equipment you have with Cox, the steps are shown at the above link.

Some programs do not support closed captions at all.

That box appears to be from the close caption feautre. If you have the original remote you can disable using the menu and go to audio functions and look for close caption to turn it OFF.
Do you have the user's guide for this TV?
If you do not, could you provide the model number of your TV?

Please try to do the following steps to enable menu

1 Turn the printer off.

2 Press and hold Select and Return and turn the printer on.

3 Release the buttons when you see Performing Self Test.

Config Menu appears on the first line of the display.

4 Press Menu until you see Panel Menus, and then press Select.

Enable appears on the display and press Select.

5 Locking Menus appears briefly.

6 Press Menu until you see Exit Config Menus, and then press Select.

Your closed captioning has been activated. Please remove using original remote menu.

This is the closed-caqptioning box. Work your way through the menus on the TV and turn off this feature. That should resolve the problem.

This is the closed captioning text box. Search the menus to turn off closed captioning. The reason for its seemingly random appearance is that not all channels nor all programs provide this service.

It sounds like you have enabled Closed Captioning and the channel that you are watching does not have that info. There should be a way to turn it back off either directly with a button on the remote or throught the menus. Look for CC.

With the TV on normal picture, no menus on

1 press and hold menu on the handset until the overview page appears
2 press menu again
3 put the cursor on channel 1
4 press and hold the button at the bottom of the remote with white around it until the tv starts tuning. Wait for it to finish.
5 hide delete insert etc the channels as you want them using the coloured buttons as shown on the screen

It appears that you have other programs running in the background and haven't been closed. To check this keep the menu button pressed for about 2-3 seconds and the phone will show the programs running in the background. If there are more than 1 close the others that's it.
also check the date and time on your phone and update it if it isn't current.
