First step is to assure that the speakers are working. If you have no other computer or sound system to test the speakers, then attach a AA, AAA or C battery to the speakers plug. It makes no difference in the polarity. If it makes a horrible white noise, the speakers are in good working order, if it makes no noise, the speakers are at fault. Should the speakers be ok, then in all probability you have a configuration problem. Go to control panel, select Sound and Audio devices, and check that the proper configuration options have been selected, and that the speaker volume sliders are at least at the 50% mark. If this doesnt solve your problem, then a computer motherboard component might have failed. Keep me posted

I have a hp pacilion dv 1000 and i have no sound on my speakers but when i connect the headphone i do get sound what could be causing this problem can someone help. ty

the headphone jack has dual contacts per side in order to re-connect your speakers when you pull the head phones out....these contacts might not be contacting each other so your problem would be the head phone jack...replace the jack...of course this is assuming that your speakers are working.
good luck

Old speakers will not work with new Dell Inspiron 530

Speakers are pretty much universal. Plug them in, and connect the audio cable to the green receptacle on the computer.

Are there speakers on the monitor? If it has speakers then they need to be connected to the speaker output[s] on your soundcard. Usually with dell it is colorcoded green on the back of your computer. Hope this helps.
