Magellan RoadMate 3000T. When plugged into the cigarette lighter, I only get a little red light in the upper right corner. How do I turn it on? I can't understand their symbols. (it is a hand me down from my son and I don't have a book)

I think you have a problem with the charging jack . If you are sure that the jack is OK , then I recommend you to replace the battery .

This happened to me, I had to send it back to Magellan for repair.

Battery failure is a likely cause- is it replaceable

I managed to solder my connector back in place. The ground trace broke away from the board so I had to install a jumper to ground. I put RTV on the connector to secure it after the repair.
Worked great for a few weeks until it was dropped again and lost power, something else has a broken connection.

I have the same issue. The device just powers up and shows the Magellan logo and does not continue past that.

same here! first my original car charger stopped working, so i purchased a replacement (a generic one off ebay), plugged it in and the little light on the top right turns on. but i have not been able to turn it on. i've left it charging for at least a half hour and nothing. any ideas?

Not sure if you'll see this post, as you asked the question back in Nov, but I
thought I'd tell you what I know anyway.

I and my parents bought the same exact unit within a week of each other.
There's works, and mine does not.

I took their cradle, and hooked it to my GPS, and it came on, no problem.
I took my cradle, and hooked it to theirs, and boom, nothing.

So, with that, I was able to isolate that the problem is definitely in the cradle.

I went to the manufacturer website, registered my Magellan Roadmate 700,
and then I was able to contact customer support. I am writing to you as

Hello, Rafster! Cigarette lighter plug problems are not uncommon, and - hopefully - this is the source of your problem. Because the green LED on your plug is lit, it would suggest that the FUSE inside is okay. Still, it's worth checking! The plug is easy to open, and the fuse easy to inspect/replace. IF the fuse is okay, the cord itself or the plug end that attaches to your Roadmate could be damaged. In order to determine this, you would have to check for voltage at the output end. But, you'd need a circuit tester and a wee bit of electronics knowledge to test it. If you don't have access to a tester, then the easiest test is to simply purchase a NEW cigarette lighter cord. You can get them at most retail discount stores (BestBuy; Circuit City; WalMart; etc.); RadioShack; or directly from Magellan. They're generally less than $10.00!
