Help me remove the Guide Plus Grid on my RCA television

We just moved and chose to go with DIRECT TV. Our RCA television has a Guide Plus Gold (Gemstar) component.
When we were using Comcast at our last house, we just punched Enter on our remote and the Guide Plus grid (that covered the TV picture) went off after a couple of seconds. On the new TV the Direct TV istaller was unable to figure out on the Direct TV remote how to make the Guide Plus grid go off. He finally figured out that if you get up and go to the TV and punch MENU the grid will go off in a couple of seconds. But punching MENU on the Direct TV remote will not make it go off. How do we get rid of this Guide Plus system so that we can use the TV without having to get up and walk to the TV everytime we turn it on? Thank you. Beckie Johnson

Simply enter 00000 for the zip code and complete the set up process; if you're in Canada, select the USA as your country and use the zip. However, you MUST complete the set up, including allowing the TV to search for appropriate code. In the long scheme of things, location and codes don't really matter because you won't see the GUIDE again.

I have Direct TV and am able to use the exit key to remove the guide. You have to program your Direct TV Remote to the correct code. I finally found code 11147 that worked. Other codes will turn the TV on and off, but only 11147 let the exit key work to remove the Guide Plus Menu. I have to hit the exit key two times to make it work.

Using your RCA tv remove, press the TV button then press the CLEAR button - the grid then disappears from the screen. I have DishNetwork and this is what works for me.

If you have DISH NETWORK using your remote programmed for the TV. HIT the CANCEL BUTTON on your DISH NETWORK REMOTE.
The annoying stupid useless screen goes away, but it will come back next time! A full remove feature is not there what a poorly designed system this is!

If you have DIRECT TV, try all the buttons maybe it will work.
CANCEL EXIT something of that nature might do it!

You can also Turn the tv off and on manually with the button on front of TV it will remove the guide screen. But this defeats the purpose of using a remote!

Also, a RCA Universal remote will work completely with most if not ALL RCA Products!

Sorry, I missed a step! For DISH NETWORK, You must press the TV button first on your dish remote & then hit cancel for it to remove the guide. :O)

Guide plus on my rca p52937 tv

You are right, the Guide Plus is transmitted to your tv over the air. If you have a cable company supplying your programs, your Guide Plus will not receive a signal to set up. You will need to get a two-way splitter. It has two connections on one side and one on the other. The side that has one connection goes to your tv. The side that has two connections will connect to your cable supplier and the other to a rabbit ear or outside antenna. Then the tv has to be off over night to restore your Guide Plus.

Question?
Whenever I turn on the television, the GUIDE Plus+™ or GUIDE Plus+ GOLD™ on-screen program guide automatically comes on.
Answer:
The GUIDE Plus+™ or GUIDE Plus+ GOLD™ on-screen program guide automatically comes up when you use the TV button on the remote to turn on the TV. There are several ways to turn off this function if you wish, depending on your model.
Option A:
Select the GUIDE Plus+™ Menu from the Main menu.
Select Setup.
Select Options.
Select Off.
Option B:
Select the GUIDE Plus+™ Menu from the Main menu.
Select GUIDE Plus+™ Auto Display from the GUIDE Plus+ menu.
Select Off.
Option C:
Press GUIDE on your remote control.
Select the Menu bar.
Press the right arrow button to select Setup.
Choose Review Options.
Select Off.

I know Option C worked for me!!

Given the many TV models, it's possible that accessing control of this feature in the Program Guide menu may differ on your TV. For specific instructions for your model, see your owner's manual.
