Re: When doing division only displays answer in...
Thank you! I needed to do sin and cosine and tangents with the calculator, and now i can do the decimals! that is AMAZING! now I can do it for trigonometry/geometry class!!!!
love it

Finding the remainder from a division calculation is often referred to as using the MOD function, though this isn't available directly on the fx-991ES. To obtain the remainder, for example when dividing 10 by 7, you can only divide 7 into 10 once, leaving a remainder of 3. For
larger numbers, eg when dividing 389487 by 31 (equivalent to 389487MOD31) the division gives an answer of 12564.09677 (on the display), however you only want the
fractional part so subtract 12564 to give 0.0967741935 . This includes
the lower value digits that were previously hidden. Then multiply this
result by 31 which gives 2.999999999 on the display. Since the result
of a MOD or remainder calculation involving integers has to be a whole number, the answer needs to be
rounded to 3. If the answer doesn't easily round to a whole number, it
is likely that you have gone beyond the calculator's working capacity. An
alternative method which avoids the rounding of the fractional part is to take the integer part of the first result
(12564) and multiply it by 31 to get 389484, then subtract this from
389487, giving the answer of 3.
Press the key marked CHANGE to toggle display between fractions and decimals. To change permanently to decimals, press the SETUP button. Press 2:Editor. Select 1:Line
This calculator is incapable of displaying simplified fractions (i.e. 1 ½), you will have to use the decimal value or contain your complex fraction in parenthesis. (i.e. (5/2).)
If a fraction (or a radical) is already displayed press the [S<=>D] key to convert it into a decimal number.
If you are entering an expression and want its result displayed as a decimal number, press the [SHIFT][=] key sequence instead of just [=].
More permanent solution: If you do not want fractions nor radicals, configure the Input/Output to be LineIO. To do that, press [SHIFT][MODE] to access the (SETUP) then select the option [2:LineIO]
Let us first set the record straight: Your calculation is a division not an addition. Be it as it may, the result you obtain is correct the fraction is equivalent to the one you entered, the difference lie in the fact that the calculator reduces the (entered) fraction to its simplest form. Both the numerator and the denomonator have been divided by 15.
If the result is already calculated and displayed, press the
[S<=>D] key It will convert a fraction or radical to decimal. This
is always possible. If the result is decimal it may be converted to a
fraction or a radical (Not always possible).
If the expression to
be evaluated is still in the command line and you have not pressed the
[=] key, you can force the result to be displayed in decimal format by
pressing [SHIFT][=] instead of just [=].
More permanently. If you
do n o care for fractions and radicals, set the Input/Outpout mode to LineIO.
To do do press [SHIFT][MODE] to access the (SETUP) screen and select
[2:LineIO]
Hello, If a number is displayed as a fraction or a radical (square root or other roots) you change it into a decimal number by pressing the [S<=>D] key, just above the red [DEL] key. If you do not care for fractions or radicals, you configure your calculator to display only decimals. To do that you press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO]. Warning: If you do that you will not be able to enter fractions or radicals in the natural (textbook display) Another way to display a fraction or a radical as a decimal is to press [SHIFT][=] to get the result not the [=] alone.
Hello, Since you bent on deactivating the very features that make your calculator so versatile and so powerful, here it is. Press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO] and you will see no more fractions, nor radicals etc. You asked for it. Hope it helps.
Three was I know of... a fraction is recognized by a calculator...
if you want to put in the decimal equivalent as example..
one half is .5
or 1/2
and it will only display the decimal equivalent.
Then there is scientific notation EE
EG... .5 = 1/2 = 5.0 EE-1
it took me a while to figure it out too but i found out how. Put in, for example, 3 divided by 2. You get 3/2. Then press the button right above DEL. (it says S<=>D) and it will convert the fraction to a decimal. To change the number of decimal places shown, push SHIFT then SETUP then 6 then a number from 1-9 and that is how many decimal places will be shown.
use your calculator and perform the division...that would give you the answer in decimal form.
1. 0.90....
2. 0.56
3. 0.60
4.0.033 and so on...you can do it....
