I'll need you to tell me what model laptop you have. Happy to search for a manual for you, but no manual out there will tell you how to solder anything onto your motherboard, only how to replace it.

Sorry!

Replace broken usb port on acer laptop

The usb ports are usually soldered to the motherboard, in some cases repair shops can re solder new ones to it but sometimes its best to just replace the entire motherboard. or in this case laptop

Panasonic CF-52 Unusable USB Ports

Not usable? Are they broken?

Go into the bios and make sure USB is enabled. Restart your computer and look at the screen to see which key to hit to get into the BIOS or System Setup. Look for USB to make sure it is enabled.

If you have a pcmcia slot on your laptop, you can always buy a device that sticks into it that will have usb ports on it for less than $30 - $40. Otherwise you might need a repairman to take the laptop apart and solder new usb ports to the motherboard.

I have toshiba Tecra 9000 laptop, its USB ports and Keyboard EXTERNAL port is not working. please help me

It's a common problem with the Tecra 9000's - either one or both USB ports and sometimes the external KB port along with it. The 2 USB's and external KB port (and the TV out port next to it) are all located on the same daughterboard that plugs into the motherboard, and in your case, more than likely the connector on the motherboard is bad (gotten loose). There's no easy fix for this unless you've got an ultra-fine soldering tip, good soldering skills....

How about a workaround? A PC card (PCMCIA card) that gives you 2 or 4 high speed USB 2.0 ports - it'll stick out a little on the right hand side, but in return you'll have fast USB ports, and you can use a USB keyboard with the thing.

My usb sometimes cannot be read by the computer and sometimes it can be read. What is the problem that arises

The USB port on your computer is most likely loose. Chances are, it's come loose from the PCB and can be soldered back on. If you are good with a soldering iron and not afraid to take apart your laptop you can probably fix it your self. Example.
Other than that try reinstalling your USB Drivers.
- Right click on computer--> go to manage --> click on USB Adapters --> right click then properties--> uninstall then reinstall the drivers

My Dell Latitude XP laptop got knocked to the floor. It fell on the side where usb port was connected to printer. Usb port pins are now bent and port is unusable. Dell said I have to replace...

No, it's not the only way, if you have an unused PCMCIA port in your notebook. The width of the PCMCIA port is about the height of a credit-card, and the height of that port is about the thickness of a few credit-cards.

Purchase a PCMCIA adapter that has two or three USB ports.
Insert the PCMCIA adapter into the slot,
and connect your USB device to one of the USB ports.

Compaq evo laptop, getting to and replacing the USB ports.

Hi

In almost all cases (90%) I have seen, the USB ports are not replaceable or repairable since they are soldered to the main board.
Additionally, the manufacturers generally do not sell these components seperately and only as part of the main board.
Before going through the effort of getting to the ports I would contact the manufacturer (HP) and see if you are able to obtain the (USB) part to fix.
you may be faced with having to replace the mainboard which will require quite a bit of labour and removal of items including a high cost that you may opt not to choose?

If you need more help in deciding on what option to choose let me know

How can I replace a bad (unuseable) USB port in a computer

More than likey the pins on the usb port have become loose.
You would need to take apart the laptop and either
A. re solder the pins
B. Replace the USB port
C. The motherboard is bad

Guide to disassemble your laptop
http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop/

To solder you will need a soldering iron (perferably one with an adjustable wattage 40Watts should be good and some .2mm solder works good for computers since its very fine and easierto solder small contact points

Once the computer is apart locate the USB port and flip the motherboard over and there should be 4 pins, you should be able to wiggle them if they are loose

Apply solder to loose pin to secure it or form a big glob of solder on it and use a solder pump to pull off all the old solder and re solder, this is the preferred method because it ensure the entire pin is surrounded by new solder

For a Novice this will probably take around 3 hours

Usb ports loose and now wont work

Even taking a laptop apart (to board level) is tough, but you need to order the USB socket on ebay and solder the new one in carefully. Are you a qualified miniature soldering expert?
