Our toshiba 42" DLP makes an incredibly loud fan noise sometimes. Sounds like it will blow up. Can this be fixed without costing a fortune or do we just need a new set

42 inch DLP was also making a loud whinning sound which would gradually fade out over 5 to 10 minutes. Had it serviced Oct 2009. Told dust had clogged fan. Was cleaned out and was told sound would soon stop. Never did. Just had serviced by another technician, who immediately diagnosed it as the light engine. Part was ordered, but it's taking 3 weeks for the repair. In the meantime the light engine has completely failed-no picture. Fortunately extened warranty was purchased so repair is covered. Oh yeah! Its on the 2nd lamp. Hope to be able to get another before Oct when the warranty expires. Good luck with your problem.

Is it a clicking noise or a loud humming noise?
If it is a clicking noise I would open the set and check for something in the way. if nothing is in the way I would remove the fan and try spinning it by a finger. If it seems like it isn't spinning right, I woule buy a new fan.
If the fan makes a humming noise try to clean it out well. It should fix the problem with the noise.
Big TV's seem to **** in alot of dust. I am sure the fan is just clogged..

How do I fix loud humming noise in my DLP HLP4663W 42 IN Samsung TV?

I would start by checking all the cooling fans to see if one is dirty or possibly failing.

My projector makes a really annoying noise

It is also possible that the bearing is going bad on the fan. I'd look into getting a replacement fan if that's the case. It is probably cheaper than a replacement bulb that would be needed if the fan failed entirely.

When i turn the tv on ,sometimes i hear a high pitched fan noise.

Hi, bearings in color wheel are about to fail, get it fixed now before the wheel shatters the prisms all over the inside of the tv which of course will then cost you more to fix, video-tek

My 61" Samsung DLP has loud Buzzing sound - Everything else ok

There are only 2 moving parts on a dlp tv the color wheel and the fan. The color wheel needs to be replaced about every 4 to 5 years. Some start to make noise and others like mine blow up with a bang. Go to utube to get instructions on how to replace it only cost me for part $100 good luck

Toshiba 42" hum

First, it being a DLP that is likely... But your posting is under the header of an projection 42H81 and that is not a DLP... Can't help much beyond that without the model number...

Toshiba 56HM195 56 in HD DLP Loud Buzzing and color distortion

If the sound, sounds more like a Hum with some vibration chances are the Cooling fan located behind the lamp is going bad, about $20 to repair, if its a high pitch hum most likely the Color Wheel and if thats the case about $30.
Good luck, my fan just went bad now seeing green dots everywhere, so debating on just junking it out or fixing it, with winter coming on might just breakdown and buy LCD and say the heck with DLP from now on.
Good luck to you..

Toshiba DLP fan noise (52hmx95)

i constantly hear complaints about fan noise in dlptvs if you sit in front of your computer you will hear the same noise even in the next room there is no solution to the fan noise problem this product has a huge cage fan and a second and third three inch fans in it.... more than the samsung product it can be noticeable if the tv is on hard surfaces ie wood floors ,inthe corner, glass top etc the vents on the back of the tv allow for proper cooling of the lamp at shutoff so it doesnt shatter the tube its kinda like annealing glass its designed to extend the life of the lamp .... which im sure youve priced call toshiba and tell them your lamp is bad right now and get a new one for an emergency ( warranty if you can do it ) they are also improved this product is known to have short bulb life sometimes the zinging noise you hear is indicative of a bad color wheel in the light engine which would require replacement ( not cheap) toshiba will not piece out the color wheel assembly individually
