We've just bought a 6'' Newtonian reflector and

We've just bought a generic 6'' Newtonian reflector that we have been told is from a leading brand and just can't see anything through it. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for this? It came with instructions but they have gotten lost.

This is made in China- here is the company web site-
    http://www.alibaba.com/product/jamesdend...

These are REFLECTOR style telescopes on an equatorial mount. Look on the MEADE telescope web site under the REFLECTOR header for a manual similar to your telescope.

    http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeMa... I think it's like this one.

Here is the main page of the manual web site:
    http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

They all assemble in a similar fashion. However this is an equatorial type mount which we never recommend for a beginner. It must be Polar Aligned in order to use it. Read my TIPS on my profile page. I have one that covers equatorial mounts.

    Clear Skies.

Also, reflectors need to be collimated from time to time- Here is a video that explains how to do this:

I am looking for a manual to download for a Spectrum 1 F900 astronomical reflector telescope I just inherited

I have never heard of that brand of telescope? However all newtonian reflectors work in a similar fashion.

You can download a Meade telescope manual at the web site below. Look under the REFLECTOR heading for one similar to your telescope.

We've just bought a 6'' Newtonian reflector and just can't see anything through it. We can see a vague ghostly disc during daylight, but at night it's totally blank. Is there something really basic we're...

DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one. Inset the eyepiece with the largest number written on it and go outside during the daytime and practice focusing on a distant object.

If there is a local Astronomy club try to get one of the members to help you with the telescope. It could also be way out of collimation.

Hi does anyone know anything about f1000114 sturnam short tube reflector telescope thankyou

Never heard of that brand. But all newtonian/reflector style telescopes work the same way.

Look around the Meade telescope manual web site for a reflector scope similar to your telescope.

Look under REFLECTORS-

Everything is upside down

Astronomical telescopes produce an upside-down and reversed image (image is rotated 180 degrees from an upright position) since this doesn't matter when you are looking at things in the night sky. Accessories are available for rotating the image to an upright position, but most of those accessories do not work well with Newtonian style reflector telescopes such as the 114EQ reflector.

Can't view anything at night.

It sounds like you have a Newtonian or Cassegrain reflector.  The black circle is the secondary mirror.  You need to insert an eyepiece into the focuser in order to properly use it.

Eye piece shows upside down

Its meant to be upside down its a newtonian reflector. If you want it to be right way up you will have to buy a diagonal eye piece or glue your shoes to the roof!

Seben 150-1400 telescope

This is a pretty generic Chinese made 6" Newtonian reflector. The one's I have sampled produce excellent images. Celestron has a great online archieve of its manuals. This scope is similar to their C150-HD Newtonian Model #31056. The manual can be found here:
http://downloads.celestron.com/Manuals/telescopes/c150hd_g8n/c150hd_g8n_manual/c150hd_g8n_manual_0802.pdf

Google "beginning astronomy" and you'll get a quartr of million hits. Good over view here.

While you are there get a subscription to Sky and Telescope or their other publication aimed at beginners, Night Sky.

Find a local astronomy club and join it.
