Mystery Print Problem with Canon iPF8000

I have a Canon iPF8000 that has suddenly come up with "Clean left print head or press online to clear" error message (for which I pressed online and the message only appeared once) and now the printer is printing random lines across images. I have performed head cleans, updated the firmware, performed print head adjustments and nozzle check test prints. Each test print is coming out differently with no real indication which print head is the problem or if it is indeed the print heads. Some of the nozzle check test prints have come out clear (without the offending lines). After checking the status of the Head Lot Numbers (both of which still display "a" at the end of the number which I understand indicates the print heads do not need replacing?). Does anyone have any suggestions? The dealer I purchased the printer from just wants me to replace the print heads but I am hesitant to shell out for new heads if that's not even the problem in the first place. Help!

If it's within 12 months of purchase, Canon will replace free, although you may have to hound them a bit. This problem has occured twice (2 new heads) on our IPF8100 each time about 9 months in.

What causes error 031300312618?

Farid: According to http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/canon/56346-ipf8000-error-03130031-2618-a.html : this is "Print Head failure.
First try replacing the Print Heads and if the problem persist, re-seat all the cabling to the Relay PCB and the Carriage Unit PCB.
A loss or faulty connection to either one of the PCB's could cause the problem. In one case, the problem was related to both a faulty Flex Cable Assembly (QM3-2005-000) and the Carriage Assembly PCB (QM3-1995-020) for the IPF8000 and (QM3-3093-000) for the 8000S.

Automatic Print Head alignment failed
Possible causes are as follows:
6128_image_6.gif A4 or Letter-sized paper is not loaded on the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, then load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Automatic print head alignment cannot be performed using paper from the Cassette. For automatic print head alignment, always load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

6128_image_6.gif Print Head nozzles are clogged.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and then print out the nozzle check pattern to examine the print head condition.

For information on how to print a nozzle check pattern, see "Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern."

6128_image_6.gif The Paper Output Slot has been exposed to a strong light source preventing correct Print Head alignment.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to clear the error and move the printer to a darker location.
After carrying out the above measures, if the problem continues after aligning the Print Head again, press the RESUME/CANCEL button to clear the error, and then perform manual print head alignment. For details on manual print head alignment, see "Manual Print Head Alignment."

Error code 03130031 2618 print

The hardware error code indicates that a print head failure has been detected. Other possible causes of this error are a faulty cable connection to either one of the PCB's.
First try replacing the Print Heads and if the problem persist, re-seat the cabling to the Relay PCB and the Carriage Unit PCB.
Since you are unable to access service mode, you will need to ignore the normal print head replacement procedure and replace the printheads whilst the plotter is turned off.
The plotter will need to be disassembled to access the print head.
See the following service manual for a detailed guide:

I have a Canon iPF8000 large format printer and a message comes up saying, "Clean Right P Head". I have cleaned the printhead as it states, but it keeps on showing on the printer screen. Because of this,...

Canon has bad heads for this LFP, it is not unusuall. Every model has this issue, canon even lower the price of head because of this.
When you replace the print head message disapears for some period of time.If Im not wrong I think that is P-01 or 03 print head involved.

The print head has an abnormally high temperature. You will need to replace the print head in service mode to clear condition.
