What does error F21 on my whirlpool duet sport front loader washer

The F21 error code indicates a long drain. Here are some tips that should help you resolve this problem:

Check your washer drain to make sure that it is draining properly.

Check the drain hose for kinks and clogs. Make sure that it is installed properly per the instructions in your owner's manual. An improperly installed drain hose can prevent the washer from draining properly.

Check for excessive suds in the washer tub. Excessive suds can prevent the washer from draining properly and will result in the F21 code. Make sure that you are using the proper amount of HE (High Efficiency) detergent to prevent excessive suds.

Place a shallow pan on the floor beside the washer and then pull the drain hose out and place the end of it in the shallow pan to see if the washer will gravity drain. If it does, then excessive suds or a drain pump problem could be causing this failure. If the water does not drain or drains extremely slowly, you could have a clog in the drain system of the washer. Follow these steps to check for a clog in the large item filter of the pump:

Unplug the washer.

Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.

Since the washer door is likely still locked, you can manually unlock it by carefully reaching up along the front panel and pulling down on the manual release tab of the door lock assembly until it clicks. You can then open the washer door.

Remove any clothes and then use a wet/dry shop vac to drain any water out of the washer.

Arrange shallow pans and/or towel in front of the large item filter shown in the second image below to catch residual water when you remove this filter.

Remove the large item filter as shown below. It is likely that you will find a clog in this area that is preventing your washer from draining.

If you do not find any clog or restriction in the large item filter and none of the other issues discussed above apply to your situation, then you could have a failed drain pump. If the pump is damaged and will not pump out water then it will need to be replaced.

These tips should help you resolve the F21 error code issue in your washer. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

Kept flashing f21. I hit stop. Now the door won't unlock.

You did not mention whether the washer actually pumps the water out of the washer when you are getting the F21 code. If the washer pumps the water out okay, then the pump and drain system are okay.

Excessive suds can prevent the pump from evacuating the water properly and will sometimes result in an F21. When the suds dissipate, the washer will then be able to pump out the water. Look for this type of condition if necessary.

If the drain pump runs but the washer will not drain the water, see if the washer will gravity drain. Pull the drain hose out of the stand pipe or sink and place it in a shallow pan at floor level. If the washer will gravity drain okay but will not drain when the drain pump is running then you will likely need to replace the drain pump.

If the washer will not gravity drain, then you still have a clog somewhere in the drain system. If you have not pulled the hose between the tub and the pump, then you could have a clog in this area.

If the washer does drain normally, then you could have a failed pressure switch, air pressure hose problem, wiring failure or a failed control board.

Water leaking from bottom, lots of suds.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This may happen due one or more than one of these issues with your washer--
Probably there is something(coins, socks, dirt, debris, etc) stuck inside the drain filter of your washer. You'll need to check the drain filter. To access the drain filter. To check the drain pump follow these steps:

Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.

Also check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.

This issue can also be due to clogged drain pump or drain filter, due to which the hose have developed leak. This will cause suds

Please rate the solution if you find it useful and helpful.

Thanks

Keep getting error code sd or 5d and sometimes a F error on my HE 2plus washer. Is there an inexpensive solution to the problem or should we be shopping for a new washer?

Hi

The Sd or 5d indicates that excessive suds are detected by the washer during the drain or spin phases of the cycle. The washer will stop and fill with 4 liters of water and then wait for 5 minutes to allow the suds to dissipate before continuing. If the suds cannot be reduced or eliminated so that the washer cycle can continue, it may stop and display the F21 (long drain) fault code. After the suds dissipate, you can normally drain the washer and spin out the clothes using a RINSE/DRAIN & SPIN cycle. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the appropriate amounts to prevent excessive suds in the washer. This should prevent the washer from going into this routine.

And if you still face the same error then probably there is something(coins, socks, dirt, debris, etc) stuck inside the drain filter of your washer. You'll need to check the drain filter. To access the drain filter. To check the drain pump follow these steps:
  1. Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.
  2. Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.
Also check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.

Whirlpool duet won t spin continues to beep and

"F02" is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be generated as a secondary error. This is an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
2. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
3. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.
