reply to starcomp: device not found in Device Manager: I have no other wireless adpters. laptop worked on wireless until I sent it to HP to repair cd drawer release button. before sending laptop to Hp they had me back up and then reset laptop to see if that would fix failed release button. it didn' t so I sent it to Hp and it came back fixed. but wireless won't work. Since my Belkin wireless works for my other laptop, I haven't reset it while trying to connect the hp laptop. ( I am a step above beginner computor user but only one step!) thanx for answering my request.

to see ur device in device manager it needs to be connected(plugged in)

if it isnt plugged in system wont show.

your wireless is plug n play so first you need install software for device then plug device in system will then detect and install device and if you want to check it you will find it in device manager.

the moment you remove it yoou will not detect it in device manager.

its a bit like a cd,your drive is permanant but you can only view cd content when cd inserted if you dont close the folder but remove the cd all the files will be gone until you replace cd.

with plug n play once software is installed devices are enabled.so as devices can be inserted and removed at any times.

does your wireless search for any networks or does nothing occur at all.

if thats the case and its defo got software installed and wireless installed it may need to be enabled.

if you can see that its enabled and works correctly then it needs to be configured.you can let windows do this or use your wireless manager if you have software for this installed.

This would be located on the front left, right below the mouse pad next to the left corner. Its usually a black switch that you could turn left for off, and right for on. when on it should show a blue light, and when off yellow...

Wireless switch is amber

By default the wireless adapter is enabled on your HP PC. However there are many ways to disable your wireless adapter. It can happen by turning it off in windows or some application may disable it due to execution errors.

Most of the time, when a wireless adapter is disabled on a machine it is very often because someone has pressed the wirless button by mistake. If it has been pushed by mistake, turn the wireless back on by finding the wirless button on your machine and pressing it. Check for button location on the top of the keyboard or the side or front of the PC. Thanks

Wireless network card

Hi there.
The wireless switch on the front bottom of the laptop, it's suppose to be blue when the button is on the right.
Right click on computer and select manage, go to device manager, and go to Network Adapters, try to see a network adapter called Broadcom, if it doesn't appear, it means that your computer doesn't recognize the wireless card and you may have to reinstall the drivers.
Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck

My wirless is not working

The wireless switch is located just behind and to the left of the wireless LED. The wireless LED is located on the left of the bottom half of your laptop looking from the front between the battery, power and harddrive LED's and the audio jack sockets.

HP Pavilion dv6000 Wireless internet function intermittent. With the on/off slide switch left in on position light will be amber (off) most of the time. Occasionally when comming out of standby the led...

You keep mentioning ( come out of standby ), You do know don't you that some systems are having problems with coming out of standby. A bios ( firmware ) update to the motherboard may fix this, but again it may not. If HP is saying that the system is working ' correctly ', then it probably is for the bios that is available for the system at this time. I would suggest not using the STANDBY mode but instead when you get done with the computer, shut it down, and restart it when you are ready to use it. I would like for you to try that possibly several times before deciding that it doesn't work for you. If you find that a complete restart of the computer doesn't alliviate your problem, please come back and let us know. I am assuming that you are in an area that has good wireless reception of course. Assumptions can be bad for a tech's health if you know what I mean.
