No power There is no power to my kirby G5. I have checked both safety switches and they seem to be operating properly. I think its the switch but I'm not sure.

I'm not familiar with Kirby vacuums, but press your reset button a few times (if you have one). If that does not work, then it is most likely the switch. For a rough estimate of the switch or parts for your vacuum, please refer to Sears Parts website and have your model number ready.

I was using kirby g5 and I think I stepped on cord and lost power on vacuum. Now it won't start. Could this be a damaged cord..or what?

either that, or it was pulled so hard, it came disconnected from the vac switch. stepping on a cord rarely affects power. so, check vac switch and outlet to make sure the outlet has power.

(if you know an electrician or if you feel comfortable disassembling the vac i would look at the point that the cord enters the vac and trace it to the switch looking for obvious breaks)

Vacuum will not operate switch does not feel as if it is working. Motor is not getting power.

Make sure that both safety switches are engaged (front and bag area). If it is still not working, than could be the cord or ON/OFF switch. How to replace the switch look at detail instructions on our website:

Does the kirby G5 have a reset button? If so,

No reset button. It sounds like you might have one of several possible problems. Some ideas I have that you could try yourself would be to check the lockout switches: there is one behind the head nozzle, maybe the nozzle is on crooked, if so, maybe not engaging the safety switch, the other lock-out is located where the bag screws on, unlock the bag and re lock it to ensure proper fit. Otherwise, take it to the shop because it could be the motor, the cord, the switch. Hope this helped ya. Let me know. Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)

Kirby Diamond Edition (no power)

You just check the bag "boot" to see if there is something worn down enough to keep the vacuum from turning it back on. If it is worn, buy a new mini-emptor assembly and install it and your vacuum should work fine.

Kirby vacuum problem

I suspect the safety/power switch. When nozzle is on the Kirby the protrusion on the nozzle casting must press the switch on the front of the unit (circled in red in the pictures below). See if that protrusion is not chipped off. It may be that a hook or even both are damaged (circled in blue) so nozzle is a bit loose and when you bump something it nozzle moves just releases the switch enough to shut the vacuum off. Hold the nozzle and try to move it. See if it is loose on the unit or not.
It could be the faulty switch too.

Kirby G5 vacuum

check the cord. see if there are any frays. or broken spots. usually it is one of 3 things. 1, faulty electric cord. 2. the attachment or floor nozzle not being properly attached( kind of a duh issue LOL)
3. a faulty switch assy. the switch can be kind of a bear to replace. I hope it is the cord. if not i would take it to a kirby repair person, because it is very easy to damage the motor assy when replacing a kirby switch. trust me i have damaged a few learning how to do it

Kirby G5 - Stopped

The carbon brushes in the motor need to be replaced. Very IMPORTANT....... DO NOT run the Kirby anymore until you get this fixed. If you do, the armature will be in danger of being damaged. (and that part is expensive!) The carbon brushes are reasonably priced, and you can use this online guide to get to them and change them. It's a guide for replacing the power switch, but it will help you change the carbon brushes too. Hope I've helped...

No power

There is a safety switch in the motor area that, if not engaged correctly, can result in your vacuum not running. The most common thing that's wrong is that at the bottom part of the motor, where the cord plugs in, the cord is in between the motor and the plastic holder for the bag and it's not letting the bag click on all the way and so it's not pushing in the safety switch enough for it to turn on. Also, you may want to remove the head and reattch it and make sure it's lined up properly. If none of this works, then you could have a cord problem or your safety switch might be out. These are very fixable problems. Find your nearest vacuum repair shop. A cord should cost no more than 30 dollars and a switch with labor will cost around 80 dollars.
