Husqvarna sewing machine - viking 400

My husqvarna sewing machine (viking 400) will not feed the bobbin - think it is out of time -- How do I set the timing?

  • cmillar Jun 22, 2008

My needle fell out an caused a jam, the needle and pin both came out easily but now my needle won't pick up the bobbin thread. I changed the needle, took apart my bobbin apparatus and cleaned it. Still won't pick up bobbin thread. I was thinking it is a timing issue and would love to know how to fix this at home, I'm an 1 & 1/2 hours from a repair shop. Husqvarna 1100 Thanks. Cindy

not the exact model of husqvarna, but I am having issues of my machine doing a very, very mild zig-zag stitch when I am in straight running stitch and the needle is positioned on the very far right.  I was told it might be a timing issue, but after checking it with another website, I think the timing is okay.  It is picking up stitches and running great otherwise.  Thanks, Priscilla

Take to authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for repair. This is not something that can be done by the owner. Check Husqvarna Viking website for dealer closest too you.

How do I oil my viking sewing machine? I have barely used it in the 10 years I have owned it, so I don't want to pay for a full tune-up. I'm sure it's linty and gummy inside.

The Designer II should not be oiled by the user. As with most computerized sewing machines, it's got a sealed bearing system. You do need to clean the bobbin area and the space under the bobbin case. See page 65 of the user manual to open stitch plate to clean the bobbin area and feed dogs. Next remove bobbin case holder and bobbin case to clean under there. Sometimes the interdental brushes can get some of the lint that the sewing machine brush misses.

The manual for the Husqvarna Viking Designer II is available on the product page: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Machines/DESIGNER-II . The current link to the manual is http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/getattachment/Machines/DESIGNER-II/Designer-II.pdf.aspx .

I hope this helps.

Husqvarna viking sewing machine bobbin

Could the part number be 4011770? I've found the Viking 7 bobbins here: http://www.mysewingmachineparts.com/top-quality-metal-sewing-machine-bobbins-4011770-husqvarna-viking/ . Another site with them is http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-viking-4011770.aspx . This bobbin is compatible with the Husqvarna Viking 7, 49, 51, 52, 21 & 21E . It probably will work for other machines. Sears also has them listed as 11770: http://www.sears.com/generic-viking-sewing-machine-bobbins-sewing-machine/p-SPM6124767105?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1 .

I also found these bobbins: http://www.amazon.com/Viking-Metal-Bobbins-5-pkg/dp/B000YZ5QSC . The part number appears to be 1702.

I hope this helps.

Thread bunching up around bobbin

If you do not have a user guide, you might want to find one. Try ebay or have an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer order you one. In fact I would find your nearest authorized Husqvarnia Viking dealer and visit them with you machine. They should be able to help you and usually are very helpful even if you didn't buy the machine from them. If they determine it is correctly threaded and the bobbin is ok, have it serviced by an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer or have them send it to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Technical Service Dept in Tennessee for service. The machine should give you years of good performance.

Use only genuine Husqvarna Viking bobbins.

To find an authorized dealer near you, check the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

Good luck.

Thread ball up

Check your bobbin area. Make sure you have put the bobbin in the case with the H logo up and the thread pulls off the spool in a counter clockwise motion. Make sure the bobbin is sitting in the case and threaded through the "catch" on the bobbin case. Then leave a long piece of thread from the bottom, holding the end of the top thread, lower the needle for one revolution using the handwheel. Does the top thread catch the bobbin thread and pull it to the top? This is done without fabric. Your checking to determine if the top thread catches the bobbin thread and pulls it to the top. IIf it does not, it is most likely hook/needle timing. f it does, gently pull on the bobbin thread and determine if it pulls through with a little resistence (checking bobbin tension). Make sure you are using correct needle -- Schmitz or Inspira needles are recommended (Universal size 80 is standard). Make sure you are using Husqvarna Viking made for your machine -- original ones were green but there are some new colored ones but all have the Husqvarna logo on them. Otherwise take it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. You can find your closest dealer at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us Good luck

Thread balls up underneath my feed dog when straight sewing. Why?????

Could be needle/hook timing. With machine off do the following to check timing -

remove bobbin and bobbin case.
push needle all the way to the left.
Turn handwheel toward you watching the needle and bobbin housing hook. The point of the hook should line up right above the eye of the needle.

If not timing, clean bobbin area and thread cutter area, removing lint and thread.
Check bobbin tension, should get slight resistance when pulling thread.
Make sure using only Husqvarna Viking bobbins -- most are green but they have new colors now. All will have the Husqvarna logo on them (an H). Make sure the bobbin is unwinding counter clockwise when going through the bobbin case.
Remove fabric. Pull extra long bobbin thread (about 3 inches). Hold upper thread tail in left hand, turn handwheel toward you for 1 revolution. Is the bobbin thread caught by the top thread and pulled through the opening of the needle plate?

If you are still unable to sew without thread balling up, take to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for service or have them send to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Technical Service Dept for repair. A list of dealers close to you can be found at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

Good luck.
