I am new at using Skype. I have had a logitrech Communicate stx Web Cam installed. I notice there appears to be what one would think are microphone holes at the base of the lens as well as the writing...

You are correct.
For Logitech to work with Skype you need to install the Logitech driver for your model WEBcab. Then you need to configure Skype to use the Logitech WEBcam and microphone.

To test if the Logitech QuickCam is functioning, check the USB cable; make sure it is connected properly. Then click on Start - All Program - Logitech - Logitech QuickCam and see if you can get the camera to capture your image/video.
If this works then configure Skype. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam
Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
Avoid connecting the WEBcam to an USB hub, connect it directly to the computer's USB port.

QuickCam mic doesn't work

I read another post that said to go to Logitech itself for up-dates. This I did......downloaded all new drivers, etc. (the disc that comes with the cam must be out of date !). Then when that was done, I went back on Skype and where you do a 'voice test' I was able to this time around to "choose" my webcam - this was not coming up before at all. So in doing that it activated the mic on the webcam and all was OK. We seniors are supposed to be savvy with the forever changing world of electronic devices today! (LOL)
