Manual can be downloaded free from here ....

Basically the date stamp can be turned on / off as an option on the RECORD menu. Page 33 of the manual explains it (with pictures).

Note that if the option is turned on, it states that the date / time is permanently embedded in the picture.

Hope this helps

You can set it up differently from brand to brand, but not all brands can 'display date and time' on photos.
For reference, the Canon model Settings:
First, open the "date mark" switch: under the shooting window, press the "MENU" button to find the options of date setting and date mark "on" or "off".
1. The date mark is set as "on";
2. Select "Postcard Mode" or "Date Mark" when taking a photo.
Specific operation:
1. Under the shooting window, press "MENU" button to find the date setting option. First, set the current date
2. Press "MENU" button under the shooting window again to find the item of "Date Mark" and select "On";
3. Continue in the shooting window, press the middle button of the arrow key, select the shooting mode (i.e., select the option at "M1, M2-- Date Mark"), select the "Date Mark" mode or the "Postcard Mode" mode, and then take photos.
Canon digital cameras in the date display Settings, different models, there are slight differences, some models choose the "date mark", some models choose the "postcard mode". These two Settings have the same effect.
There are also:
1, Panasonic FX38 photo date setting method:
In the camera's playback mode, select the Add Blot option, which displays the date and time the photo was taken, but the photo size is automatically reduced to 3M.
2. In the shooting menu of Nikon E4500 digital camera, you can choose the mode of "date/time printing".
Photos taken in "Date/Time Print" mode are now displayed.
3. Olympus digital cameras don't even show the date when they take pictures.
4. Sony digital cameras that have been on the market in recent years don't have the ability to overlay dates on photos.
Finally, photos can also be edited in the post with time.

Sony DSC-W55, how to make the date to appear on the picture itself?

This camera doesn't give you the option to have the dates on the pictures. The manual says there is a Picture Motion Browser software that comes with the camera that could do it.
Hope that helps.

Print Picture with date

I don't believe that the XTi will let you have the date on the picture.
Easiest solution I can think of is to download some free software like Paint.net and use the text tool to add it in the corner before printing.
If you have forgotten the date or time, and you're using windows (not sure how to do this on a mac) right click on the image, go to properties, click the summary tab, and then click Advanced. That will give you something called the EXIF data, or all the info about the picture (camera model, shutter speed, etc). Near the bottom should be the date and time.
