Dryer will not turn on

The dryer was working. I opened the door to check on the clothes. Upon closing the dryer, I turned the knob and pushed it ot start. However it did not start. I could hear a ticking sound like the timer was tiking but it would not start. It apear the door switch is not broken. I am thinking it is in the main dryer switch or the heat coil or fuse. I am leaning to the main dryer swith as the problem. Can I test the swith with an ohm meter tester? How hard is it to replace the switch?

How do you dry clothes in this machine please

A fairly common problem! The official instructions are

Before using your dryer, wipe the dryer drum with a damp cloth to
remove dust from storing and shipping.
1. Load clothes loosely into the dryer and close the door. Do not
pack the dryer. Allow space for clothes to tumble freely.
2. Turn the Cycle Control knob to the recommended cycle for the type of load being dried. Use the Energy Preferred Automatic Setting (,) to dry most heavyweight and medium weight loads. See "Drying, Cycle, and Temperature Tips."
3. Select a temperature setting on models with a Temp/Fabric selector. The cycle descriptions include temperature setting suggestions.
4. Push the START button.

Stopping and Restarting
You can stop your dryer any time during a cycle.
To stop your dryer
Open the dryer door or turn the Cycle Control knob to OFE
NOTE: The Cycle Control knob should point to an Off area when
the dryer is not in use.
To restart your dryer
1. Close the door.
2. Select a new cycle and temperature (if desired).
3. Press START

I have a Hotpoint Dryer NVLR333ETOWB, I opened the door mid cycle, to check on load, make sure it was drying, I shut the door, and when I turn the start knob, all I get is a buzz, and the dryer does n

Hey GOD IS GOOD !!!!
Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

No lint on filter? Where is it all going? Checked exhaust vent bought a vacuum attachment and there is no lint. Twice and sometimes triple the drying time! Help!

Instructions
  1. Dryer Does Not Run
    • 1 Close the door firmly. The dryer will not operate if the door is not completely closed.
    • 2 Press the "Start" button firmly or push the knob in to start the dryer.
    • 3 Turn the dial past the "Off" position and away from "Wrinkle Prevent." The dryer will not start in the "Off" or "Wrinkle Prevent" position.
    Long Drying Times
    • 4 Remove the lint screen. Clean it and replace it.
    • 5 Check the temperature of the room. The dryer will not operate properly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • 6 Inspect the area around the dryer. It requires at least 1-inch clearance on the front and sides of the dryer. A 5-inch clearance is needed on the back of the dryer. Move the dryer, if needed.
    • 7 Separate large loads and do not use an air dry cycle.
    Lint, Stains and Wrinkles
    • 8 Clean the lint screen before drying each load of clothes to prevent lint buildup on clothing.
    • 9 Add fabric softener sheets before starting a drying cycle. If the sheets are added after the load has partially dried, they can leave stains on the clothing.
    • 10 Dry small loads and remove clothing as soon as the drying cycle completes to prevent wrinkling.
    Dryer is Noisy
    • 11 Check the inside of the dryer for loose change, buttons or other items. Empty the pockets on clothing before drying.
    • 12 Separate items that are knotted together and restart the load. Knotted or balled up clothing will bounce and make the dryer vibrate.
    • 13 Level the dryer. Turn the leveling legs on the front of the dryer clockwise or counter-clockwise until the dryer is level. Turning the legs clockwise will lower the dryer. Turning the legs counter-clockwise will raise the dryer.

Dryer won't start in Frigidaire FGX831CS0 stackable. Assumed it was a bad start switch because honey bunny had broken the knob off and was using a pliers to start it but have replaced that and still nada,...

Check the door switch. Turn on dryer as you push in on switch where the door catch is and see if it starts . when closed the pin may not be pushing it in.

Dryer will not turn on when push button pushed

There should be an interlock device in the door that shuts the dryer off when the door is opened. The device is a switch that opens the power circuit. If the switch isn't being closed when the door closes, then the dryer won't start.

My dryer makes a buzzing noise when I push the start button

My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob.
I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.
