A band of color for a picture on my 50H72 toshiba projection tv suddenly becomes either half a picture with a thick band of color on top or just becomes a band of color with no seeable picture. We have also had the problem of a too red picture or negative picture which i thought was from the dvd player but apparently was not. What is the solution? jctypes

The most likely cause of a problem such as described is failure of the "Hyper Module"; this is one of the "stand-up" PCB's on the main signal PCB (which is the one on the right when viewed from back of set). These modules have a history of failure of the multiple electrolytic "surface-mount" capacitors; successful repair of hyper modules usually entails replacing all caps on the board, and often some solder repair as well...the degree of soldering expertise required to adequately service such products will usually preclude all but professional repair

Toshiba 50H72 have blue and yellow ghosts

Sounds like your convergence circuit went out. It lines up the red, green and blue picture tubes so the colors are lined up. Usually these TVs all use the same type of IC chips called "STKs" both usually get replaced along with any resistors etc.. around these chips that may have burned up. Depending on who fixes it could be around $300-400 parts and labor.

I have a toshiba model 50h72 double vishion

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Picture gone.

You have bad conv. ic's.On these sets when the ic's go bad it will usually pop a fuse or burn up a few safety resistors, causing ith video to go away.

Toshiba 50H72 rear projection TV. NO Video

Bad caps and solder connections, especially in around the 9v regulator just about center of the defection circuit... Not a terribly expensive job and certainly worth the repair if the cabinet is in good condition...

Pictue problem

One of your convergence output IC's has burnt out and needs to be replaced. When the IC that handles the Red Vertical (RV) channel goes bad then a small low-value resistor usually burns out with it and the red color will sag inwards at the top and bottom. If you have no experience in repairing and realigning convergence circuits then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
