What's F4 error code stands for?

Hello Richard;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number and manufacturer. So, the following is a general description of a F4 code.

The error code "F4" will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or "clock" determines an open oven temperature sensor circuit during the "cook" (bake or broil) mode. The "F4" message will not be displayed in the time of day mode. The cause of the problem is a bad oven temperature sensor or its wire harness. The access to the oven temperature sensor plug and the wires is from the back only. You have to pull the oven out of the wall (if it's free standing) or remove it from the cabinet (if it's built in). Disconnect the power and remove the rear cover. Check the resistance across the oven temperature sensor. It is supposed to be about 1100 Ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is incorrect, the oven temperature sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. If not, check all the wires from the oven temperature sensor to the ERC. If it is not the sensor and wires, you have to replace the ERC.
To get the right replacement part just click on the link AppliancePartsPros, then type the model number of your oven in the search box, click on the "search" button and in the new window type the word "sensor" or the word "clock" in the "search by keyword" box and click the "search" button.

You can go into the following website put in your model number and get diagrams ans component part numbers.
Your model number is on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the oven door.

F4 code is displayed and oven beeps continuously

Hello Duane, I am happy to assist you. Typically, error code F4 indicates a lockout error. Try resetting the unit by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. This usually clears most false error codes. Wait approximately ten minutes and if the error code does not clear, I would recommend contacting a professional to proceed further. Most likely the EOC (electronic oven control) or the Lockout Control Board on the appliance will need replacing.

Service Code F-3

Hello,
The error code's F3&F4 are codes that mean their is a problem with the oven tempature sensor and that sensor is uncappable of telling the control board what the temp. is in the oven. This is what the sensor looks like,oldtech2332_20.jpgTo check the sensor, unplug it and place meter leads into the white plastic plug at the end and check for between 1060-1100 ohms of resistiance when its good.

The F3 error code means that the sensor is shorted so if it indeed is shorted the meter reading will show ZERO ohms resistiance instead of the 1060-1100 of a good one.

The F4 error code is for sensor that has a open circuit,so instead of the 1060-1100 of a good it the display on the meter will show infinate resistiance ( the meter display will not change)

If on either the F3/F4 error code if at room tempature when checking the oven sensor if the display shows anything other that 1060-1100 ohms the sensor is going to be the problem and needs to be replaced.

F4 is an error code that flashes on Kenmore electric ovens when the oven's temperature sensor has shorted. You should check the wiring harness and replace the sensor if necessary.

Hope helps.

Every fault code I am able to find concerning F-4 period has to do with bad oven sensor. This is the probe coming through the wall inside the oven to read oven temp and to regulate it. Hope this helps. Rick

F4 error code

Ok, test the element for its operational value. if the element is not getting a signal to warm from the control board, this will be the issue, considering that the element is new and able to warm. replace the Oven control in this case.

JUst to be safe, back track the installation to make sure every connection was properly united. make sure the element was installed correctly. if so, replace the control.
