Ihave a GE XL44 self cleaning oven. The self cleaning works, but not the normal oven section. The ignitor has continuity, but only has 120VAC when turning knob to self cleaning. The 120VAc shuts off when turning back to oven temps. The indicator light turns on but no ingnition. My model is jgbp30aea4aa. What next?

I had this same problem with mine (still posted under unsolved) This is the simpler model with the old turn style knob and the lever you slide over to lock the door for cleaning What I think (keep in mind I know little about ovens, more about cars) is that the switch that tells the oven the door is latched is staying engaged, and this is part of the lever mechanism. I cleaned and lubed this mechanism (obviously I would guess you want to use a food safe lubricant) and then moved the lever several times with the oven on so I could see if it turned on. After a few tries the cleaning light went off and the oven light came on. No, its not really a technical answer, all indications to me where that the problem was in the switch which is part of the latch mechanism. Good luck

It was the igniter. The gas would go higher and then lower. The oven would take an hour to heat up. The new igniter did the trick. Thanks for your help and that link to the new part.

Hello ,
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,
You asked, is there anyway to bypass the oven lock or bypass the self cleaning mode to get oven working?
Why do you need to do this?
If the door lock is stuck in closed position and preventing you from using the range?
You may free this by following this procedure.
Threat it like an error code.
This can reset the system.
Turn the breaker off to cut the power for 5 minutes.
Then restart the breaker and try the range.
It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
Usually it corrects most problems!.
Or they are sometimes just a glitch.
If this does not remedy the problem, then the lock switch itself is bad and if you think you can bypass it then you may as well change it. Same labor!!.
Let me know how it works out.
Huuum

If it is a ge it would have a glow bar ignitor, either a flat rectangle shaped or a round ignitor. That is want the problem is 95% of the time. It is pretty easy to do. The floor of the stove will come right out and it probably has two screws in the back corners you can see. Remove them and the floor will lift out and you can see the burner and the ignitor.
