That shouldn't keep you from downloading your photos to the computer.

In fact, the best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Testimonial: "Thank you so much, very helpful here. I was going to go as far as purchasing another camera. And yes, the process much faster too :)"

Hi,

I highly recommend that you instead consider using a card reader to move the photos or videos to your computer. Card reader's do not require software (although Windows 98 and earlier may require drivers), are very inexpensive, are much faster downloading files from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during the download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
Really, it would be better for the camera user if one of these was included with the camera instead of the cable and bundled software.
You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you convert to using one of these. Also make sure that you get a reader that is clearly stated capable of reading your card, particularly if you use SDHC, XD, CF, or MS cards.

The preview photos are very small on the back screenafter tacking it with 5mgp when we want to see how it looks

Hello,

You can view the pictures on your PC by transferring it using the USB cable provided when you purchased the camera.

I believe most digital cameras are also plug and play so you don't need to download anything.

If you still have any questions, please feel free to comment back.

Problems downloading photos from camera

Unless someone else on the forum offers something more specific, I'd be very tempted to borrow a USB cable from a friend and see if using that instead of yours works. (Doesn't have to be from an Olympus camera - anything that has the same connectors on - camera, MP3 player, etc lead will do). A.
