If the monitor works try hit ctrl alt f3. if that works you might have to reset your resolution

Are you sure someone hasn't sat on or dropped it, sorry I don't mean to be pessimistic but it doesn't sound good. John

This problem can also be due to the corruption of display drivers// assuming that you have checked the contrast and brightness do this step:- goto device manager// click on the display adaptar + sign and on the pop-up driver right click and select uninstall//
once the driver is uninstalled then restart the computer and check//
if that doesnot work then you can also upgrage the grafic card by going to the web site// even if this doesnot work then 100% the problem is with the notebook screen// contact best buy or wallmart or the retail store from where you have bought the notebook//

The cause is a failure of the LCD, and you can fix it by replacing the LCD.

Hold down the power button for about 10 seconds untill it powers down and restart entering the correct password..

There is a small board that the power button is integrated into that connects to the motherboard. When this power board malfunctions it will cause this issue with the machine. It can, and quite often does, damage the motherboard when it malfinctions. You should take the machine in for a power board replacement and a diagnostic to make sure that the power board hasn't damaged the motherboard.

The only way to fix it is to buy and install a replacement LCD.

LCD's are available for about $100 on EBay, but the you have to know the size a resolution of the screen before buying a replacement. (14.1 or 15 inch, XGA, SXGA+ or UXGA resolution)
