On Timer - channel selection

I use my KDL-40V3000 with a cable box, attached via an HDMI cable. When I turn the TV on manually, it turns on to the HDMI-2 input, which is where my cable box is and it's where I leave the TV when I turn it off.
Now, I would like to use the on-timer. When I set the on-timer, I am forced to choose a channel. This is a meaningless selection, because I use the cable box and, therefore, I don't even have my channels set up. The result is that when I use the timer to turn the TV on, it automatically goes to channel 2 (the default channel for the on-timer settings).  What I want is the TV to turn on with the "channel" as the HDMI-2 input (which is where my box is attached).  I cannot change the on-timer channel to HDMI or HMDI-2 (or anything besides channel 2, since I don't have any channels set up).
How do I use the on timer to turn my TV on in HDMI-2 mode?

What settings do my Samsung tv need to be on to link a digital cable box

The digital cable box will most likely connect via an HDMI connection. Simply ensure that the SOURCE selection for the set matches up to the HDMI port that the digital box is attached to. There is no need for any kind of channel scan when using this type of connection as the cable box acts as the digital tuner. If you are coming into the set on the coaxial cable line, then that is a different story. Ensure that the digital cable box is turned on, then do a channel scan to locate the channel that the cable box is using to send the signal.

Can record Sky programmes but not view live.

You must connect up the TV to the SKY box, via Audio Visual cables too, in order to watch, recorded programs. You need to hook, up, Component, HDMI, or Composite, You select it by an EXTERNAL channel.
Connect the cable running from the wall into the "In" port on the Sky Box HD receiver. This cable brings in the signal to your receiver. Make sure the cable is securely fastened to the receiver, otherwise you might experience image and audio issues.
Attach an HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the Sky Box HDTV receiver. The HDMI is a single cable that provides both HD audio and video signals.
Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into an available HDMI port on the HDTV.
Power on the HDTV and the Sky Box HDTV receiver. Press the "HDMI" button on the TV's remote control. This will display the cable contents of the HD receiver onto the television.

How do you watch free cable channels on a sony

If you are connecting the cable directly to the TV with no cable box, you'll select Home on the remote control. This will put the menu on screen. Scroll down until you find the Channel Settings option. Set the Cable category to On, Select Auto Program to automatically scan for all analog and digital channels. You can then customize which channels you want to remove when scanning channels.

Try resetting the TV by holding down the "up" button on the remote (with the TV powered on) and then, while you hold down the up button on the remote, hit the power button on the TV. This should do a "factory reset" which will wipe all settings in the TV. There is no reason why the TV should not "remember the last input it was on when it was ;last turned off. Also be sure that the TV is not plugged into a switched AC outlet, like the outlet on the back of the cable bix. The TV should be plugged into an output that receives power at all times.

assuming you all have comcast and using an hdmi cable
first access menu (hit it twice) and go to set picture format, choose passthrough....or in your case auto hdmi

then turn box off, press guide and info on the front of the box, proceed through the setup, advanced is more in depth..lol...

select 1080, 720, and then either the standard or widescreen 480s to your liking.....

voila....

now check your tv settings to accommodate
