I have a Toshiba TP55C80 and this is my second time replacing the IC's (STK392-110). Last time i did, it helped somewhat. It got bad again and I decided to replace them once more, this time I got a kit from tvrepairkits.com and they send some resistors with the kit. Before I replace any resistors I decided to check them first. Most of them checked good, one of the bigger ones in phisical size similar to another did not read anything. The one similar to this one reads 300 ohms. should I consider this resistor as bad? Also, there's a bunch of tiny resistors and I mean tiny, that some read resistance and a lot of them don't. Is this normal? or are they open too? I have heard that some resistors may not read anything with an ohm meter but it doesnt mean they're bad, that they need to be under load to actually function. Is this true?

SOURCE: Urgent help

PLEASE let me help...1) If you ask a large parts supplier about
OEM parts (Original Equipment Mfr.)the best quality is by the piece with mfr # on the bag...Hitachi STK392-110 is now subbed
and upgraded to STK394-160 with Hitachi # CZ 01341 ON THE
PACKAGE ! They are the best and WILL NOT BURN THE
CURRENT LIMITING RESISTORS UP ! Kit IC's are not always
first QUALITY, as you are fnding out.So, change the IC's with
two # CZ 01341 HITACHI ON THE BAG and you will not burn
any more resistors ! 2) Forget about the DCU and yokes........
Let me know how it goes......................T.

SOURCE: Hitachi

They have it, they just list it as a 1-4 watt resistor, just order two of the 1-4 watt resistors and they will send a order confirmation inquireing which rating you need for those two items within minutes of your order.

SOURCE: 1.5 ohm resistor rk 46 keeps blowing

You should have put the original OEM STK's in the set - if your set had 110's or 120s put those chips only. Do not risk different chips with different specs/amps/ etc....when you do resistors blow as you have discovered.

SOURCE: Hitachi 51G500A Convergence Problem

I have no experience at tv repair but I solved this problem and you can too. I bought 2 stk 392-150 chips made by sanyo on ebay for $30. I bought a low life jewelers loupe which is a sort of cap with different lens pieces out on the end of the bill for $10 on ebay. I bought a soldering iron and the smallest diameter silver solder and a little suction bulb and heat sink grease from radio shack for $20.

Take the back off tv. Locate circuit board with ics. remove screws that hold board . there are several wire bridges, snap these apart also. number connections with marker, undo connections. you will note that this board is connected to 3 crts by cable, do not disconnect this cable! This board must remain connected to crts by this cable! (so much for tv repair.com telling you how easy you can remove the board and solder it in your workshop) this board must remain connected to the crts, you can flip the board upside
down but all work must be done at back of tv

undo screws on ics. pry ics loose from heatsink. put on jewlwers loupe then turn board over and heat up each ic pin then **** molten solder into suction bulb. each ic has 19 pins. remove old ruined ics ( shame on Hitachi) my tv was only 3 years old! Put gob of heatsink grease on new ic, spread with razor blade, not to thick or thin, stick new ic thru holes in board and screw to heatsink . solder all pins to circuit board. look at the resistors that are close to the ics. if one is burned black it will have to be replaced, they act as circuit breakers and will burn out to protect other parts of the tv. usually the resistors are fine it was just the cheapshit hitachi ics that were bad.

Put everything back together and turn on tv for 20 min. after 20 min do the magic focus. your tv should focus up and be good as new. I have fixed several hitachi 51g500a in this way. Good luck!

I have white horizontal lines about 2 inches at top of my tv

You have some bad grounds on the Vertical IC. In addition to this, in the immediate area of this Vertical IC, are a few bad capacitors. Look for this IC mounted on a large heatsink. It may have seven pins . I cannot remember for sure. I have not worked on this particular TV, so I cannot give you specific locations. But I assure the problem is in this area! If you have some electrical experience you can pull this board out. In this case only the caps need replaced and the IC resoldered. Good Luck and thank you for asking. Toshiba 60HX70 distorted picture, blinking red light

You could have a Power Supply Regulator Problem. Many times these sets will not hold Horizontal sync when there is excessive High Voltage or a problem with the High Voltage Regulation. This is not a problem you want to deal with yourself. I would recommend a Toshiba Repair Facility to come out and diagnose it.
Hope this helps,

Where can we get the best IC Replacement

always stick with the manufacturers brand ! but you will need to check the resistors on the IC lines to make sure thier values are not off , because that will cause the IC to go again no matter what brand IC you use. other components in line of the IC should also be checked for bad values as they can also cause malfunction and breakdown of an IC and its circuit components

Convergence IC upgrade

you should stick with the 110's. the pinout may be the same, but that doesnt mean they will work. Also you need to check all of the large 1 watt resistors by the STK's - if one is bad or out of spec it will greatly effect the picture. Remember, you need to test these OUT OF CIRCUIT.

One more thing, there may be some small Pico fuses or other fuses near the convergence power supply - check all fuses as well.

Mitsubishi WS48511 TV will not power on completely.

have you checked the pico fuses on the bottom side of the PC board? They are small ceramic fuses soldered directly to the runners. They have been known to blow and your set will not power up. Hope this helps, if you need anything further let me know. Also sometimes the 1000uf caps don't show any signs of swelling but can still be bad.

Hi Mark, tough call without putting a scope to the circuit, either the convergence IC`s are going bad, signal from DCU is going bad (digital convergence unit), or possibly bad solder somewhere in the convergence circuit, I`m afraid your going to need a tv tech for that problem, BMW Rider

Toshiba 32" HDTV 2002

The power regulators are famous for going bad. The big problem with this TV set is that unless you use the exact regulator from Toshiba, this set will fail time and time again. Even if the regulator IC has the exact same number, it will not hold up. We used to have a shop that was authorized by Toshiba, and we seen this problem many times when customers would say that they had their TV fixed by some local shop and the same problem occured several times. Good Luck

TV pops and shuts off

Its two maybe three issues that your having trouble with. First thing is the convergence. That problem could be a cold solder connection on the convergence IC's or the Ic's have a thermal problem, as after they heat up they go bad. The second is the popping. This could be an issue with the rear channel Audio output Ic intermittanly shorting and shutting down the set, or it could be a bad ground around the picture tubes, or a leaky hi voltage block, or a second anode lead going to the picture tubes could be split. The other common problem with this set is the STR#### regulator IC in the power supply. Now unless your a tech you shouldnt attempt any of these repairs as there is very high voltage in this set and could cause great harm to you. seek the help of an authorized repair shop for Toshiba. Try this # if you cant find one in your area 800-457-7777 Good Luck
