That's the mirror bumper, it softens the blow and cuts the noise as the mirror flips up.

Carefully remove it and then replace it with a new one. You can get it as part of a foam light seal repair kit for your camera; this also ensures that the sticky black goo which used to be foam and which prevents light from getting past the edges of the camera back gets replaced. Light seal kits are very cheap, and if you buy a pre-cut version then it makes a fiddly job a bit easier and potentially less messy. They're widely available on sites like ebay, just search for "k1000 light seals" and check that the kit includes a mirror bumper/buffer.

If you don't get it repaired the fuzz will get everywhere and can also get onto the film surface causing white spots on your photos or black spots on negatives/slides. The debris can also get into your lenses so remove it asap. Gooey foam light seals are even worse as it's both corrosive and abrasive (due to the grit it attracts) and gradually migrates to gum up the works. It can also result in light fogging on your photos (usually seen as red streaks from the top or bottom of the picture). Modern foam seals do not decompose like the old ones did.

Pentax K1000 35mm SLR. I have just purchased a second hand K1000. and like others trying to work out its date of manufacture? Serial 6658670.

Question edited for clarity. All questions need full 'make model (what it is)'. I took a wild guess from 'K1000'. :>D

I have a Pentax k1000, and was given a few vivitar and olypus lenses. They do not fit the camera. What can I do?????

Vivitar makes lenses with a variety of mounts. Lenses with the Pentax K-mount can be used on the K1000, lenses with other mounts can not.

Olympus lenses will not mount onto a Pentax camera.

You can sell the lenses, give them to someone with the appropriate camera(s), or use them as paperweights.

Asahi pentax sv film advance lever stuck

Without film in the camera it may well read before zero, my K1000, K1000Se, and K2 do that. Press the film rewind button, maybe that will release it for you.

I recently dropped my Pentax K1000....oops! The only damage I noticed was a small dent in the metal side of the lens....hardly even noticeable. But now, the focus isn't working, and the light meter doesn't...

Unfortunately, this is a serious problem.

If the focus ring is not working then there is serious damage inside the lens. This cannot be repaired easily and must be taken in for repair.

As for the light meter, this is slightly more worrying as it is damage inside the body. It could be something as simple as the battery contact. But it could also be somehting more serious.

I would recommend taking it for repair.

If repair turns out to be too expensive I suggest you have a look on ebay. Pentax cameras are available with a wide range of prices and so are compatible lenses. A good upgrade would be a Pentax MX or even an LX if you can afford it. The ME super is also an excellent model if you want soemthing simpler.

On my pentax asaih k1000 when you look through the lense its black- i dont know if the mirror might have fell out or what...

If you look through the view finder and it is black, the mirror is hanged up and the shutter is jammed. The mirror is still there.

Pentex k1000 rewind knob unscrewed, shaft fell inside camera

first make a small hook on the end of a straightened paper clip. insert the hook and pull up rotating the hook as you pull up. being careful not to bend the spring near the hole. once the back door is opened check the rewind shaft, there should be a beveled edge on the collar of the shaft. rotate the shaft while pushing up. if no beveled edge on the shaft use the paper clip to push the spring out of the way while inserting the shaft. if it still will not return file a bevel on the collar of the shaft. I am assuming there is no film in the camera as the canister will prevent the shaft from falling in.

Will no longer recognize 4gb sd cards

are you sure the camera is a Pentax K1000.
the K1000 is a manual 35mm film camera, the only electronics in it are for the light meter. plus a circuit for the flash connections.

Pentax K1000 rewinding knob restore

Pentax fan

There is a spring in the way. straighten a paper clip and from the top of the camera push it out of the way while you gently push the shaft up. rotating the shaft helps.
or you could file a little of the shaft collar on an angle ( if it's not there ) then rotate the shaft while gently pushing up. don't bend the spring.

Black bar on rt. side of photos.

elockepens

is this black bar on all the time or only when using flash? if only when using flash then your shutter speed is to high. for flash on the K1000 the shutter speed must be 1/60th sec. or slower.
if the black bar is there all the time then the shutter must be adjusted, cleaned and lubed.take or send your K1000 to a camera repair shop for an estimate first as there are no new part available,
