SOURCE: Lens Error!

Hi I use to be a camera technican for samsung repairing small camera's like yours. It is a very common fault 90% unfortunatley of lens errors are the users fault not the cameras. The lens error means the lens is jammed, usually by a slight knock while the lens is out or a bit if debri like sand getting into the lens's moving parts. If it is still under manufacturers warranty send it in for repair. If the camera is clean and looked after with no scratches, dints or abrasions on the lens or camera body you will have a chance to get it fixed under warranty for free. If it is scratched and dinted and the purchase value of the camera is around $250 it may cost you around that to get it fixed. Good luck

I have the same problem, which is not one but only a symptom : this problem occurs if the camera doesn't appreciate the batteries you feed it with ! use another brand, another model, or if rechargeable use another set of fully charged batteries...
I consider this problem coming from faulty design of the camera which consumes batteries very fast AND is very sensitive to the battery type you're using :-(

SOURCE: casio ex-z77/ lens error

you might have pushed the lens into the barrel. small lens barrel has 3 metal pins that ride inside the larger lens barrel as it twists. Pushing it sometimes cracks the plastic holding these 3 pins in. one way to fix it is to carefully disassemble the entire lens barrel. be careful...sometimes a part just snaps, or is already snapped. The easiest way would be to replace the lens assembly with a good one you can get from another camera like this. There are no spare parts for cams like this so you can try to get another cam that has a different damage other than the lens barrel.

SOURCE: canon ixus 950 shutter stuck half open . when turn

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Lens shutter problem

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

ERROR 99

if you have a DSLR and your'e getting this "error 99" it may be associated with the particular lens youre using. try turning off the camera and removing the battery, the lens, and the memory card. let it sit for half an hour. reinsert the battery only and depress the shutter button as if you were to take a normal picture. if error 99 occurs again, then the camera needs servicing. if it error 99 doesn't occur at this point, turn the camera off and install the memory card. format the memory card while it's in the camera and press the shutter button as if youw ere to take a normal picture again. if you see error 99, then the problem probably lies with the memory card. if it doesn't occur, turn off the camera and install the lens. again, power on the camera and press the shutter as if you are taking a normal picture. if the error occurs, then it's with the lens. try to clean the lens including the connection points both on the camera and the lens. if the error code still occurs, try different lens to narrow it down to which particular lens is giving the issue. if it happends with all the lens, then the camera needs to be serviced.

Lens error

Hey Ryan Roos,
This message should mean there is something obstructing the movement of the lens (i.e. sand). You could try blowing compressed air into the side of the lens to try and dislodge whatever is in the lens. You could also try putting the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointed up while holding in the shutter button, and while doing this turn the camera on. If these options don't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.
