I have a 1993 36 inch RCA, model # P46151WK. TV was on and suddenly heard something pop and it started to smell like something burned inside. It wont turn on anymore.

You may have a fried horizontal output transistor and a defective flyback transformer. If indeed this set is 17 years old.......cheaper to replace him...sorry!

It sounds that a capacitor inside the circuit of the has failed. It might have bursted. Check the power supply regulator board for the trouble. Normally electrolytic capacitors at this section should be suspected.
Your RCA TV needs serious troubleshooting. Burning smell is from HV transformer or resistors smoking.
Most likely power supply and/or high voltage circuit or convergence circuit. Many times RCA have multiple or secondary faults that occur with HV or convergence failure.
Repair of RCA HV or convergence usually requires exact manufacturer parts and upgrades or repair in power supply. I would not advise trying this repair without manufacturer support for correct part numbers and service bulletins.
On some of the RCA televisions, the Hi Volt transformer will go bad and make a sizzling or popping sound. Most often, it will smell burnt when this happens.
Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things. I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.
