My Camera Canon Powershot S1IS has lights but the shutter will not open. I can't see anything looking through the view finder or through the LCD monitor. CF card ishas few pictures and placed correct

Make sure it is not in bulb or B for shutter speed. That will keep the shutter open and make everything black. In fact, just set different shutter speed and try. Recycle power of course. Can you see into the lens from the front, with flashlight if needed? And of course the final basic check, is the battery fully charged?

When the camera is in take a picture mode, the view finder is black. When viewing pictures pictures previously taken, they are show on the view finder. Why is it black in this mode?

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

When i take a take a picture with the lens on the shutter inside doesn't close leaving the picture exposed and the view finder is dark is it broken?

the shutter is locked in the up postion. Try replacing batteries and put you shutter speed at the B setting and see if this will unlock.

Screen is blank when trying to take a picture.. When looking thru the view finder, it is black..

hi.if you are telling both viewfinder and lcd are blank or black the problem is in the shutter that you found inside of the lens are not open.sometimes the cuase of this are humidity or moist goin inside of the shutter thats why it will not work properly or stuck up. if your camera still under warranty its better bring to service free and for sure this will cover and free of charge but if not and you have knowdledge repairing electronics you can open your camera and adjust the shutter from lens unit. by the way try also to reset your camera to default setting maybe it will help you.

thank you

Blurry pictures

Both of these problems are caused by underexposure. There are several causes for this. If you are set in AUTO MODE check the shutter speed and lens opening in the view finder. If the speed is less than 100 and the shutter is less than 5 and you are not using flash. You will probably get blured and dark pictures.  Practice shooting with your settings outside in sunlight , inside with lamplight, inside with flash and all of the above with motion. Check the exposure after each shot and make adjustments. In a short time you will get very good at setting your camera.

SCREEN AND VIEW FINDER BLANK

Is the battery dead? Try taking it out and charging it, then put it back into the camera.

Also, you can try using another battery of the same type.

Will not take picture

Some digital SLR camera have a mirror lock and others have a viewfinder shutter In each case this will be a knob in the region of the viewfinder that turns. Check that this model has it and it has not be inadvertently turned. Then come back
