New computer with windows 7 Lexmark x4650 not compatible with 64 bit. How to download driver to except printer?

You may need to uninstall the existing driver before installing the new driver. I presume your printer is the Lexmark X4650 since your post is under this printer model. You will need to use the Lexmark X4650 driver available for download in the Lexmark website instead of using the installation cd. Don't connect the printer to computer yet with the usb cable. First, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties. You may have done this already but go to www.lexmark.com and go to the support/downloads tab and search for your printer. Download and install the printer driver for your printer which is for Windows 7. let me know if this works.

Under Windows 7 the main problem is the 64bit to 32 bit bridge with the driver being 32bit and Win7 being 64 bit. (I assume you are using the 64 bit edition of Win7 - as this is what I have and is doing exactly the same)
After contacting Lexmark I was told they are in the process of updating their driver website pages, to include an updated driver for the X4650 for win 7 the 32 and 64 bit.
Until they release the update, it is something I have to live with too. :-)
