Mold is developing in drainage tubing - how do I prevent?

Keeping the humidity level in your home below 50% will greatly decrease mold growth. You can pour some bleach in the drainage tubing to clean it out and do it every three months to keep it clean

My humidifier is not working first times worked great

The manufacturer states you can use tap water in these devices, but then goes on the disclaim that if you have water with minerals or hard water then white "dust" deposits can occur. Theses deposits are supposed to be noted and if seem, you are to change to filtered or distilled water or purchase one of their filter cartridges. These devices use very tiny holes to produce the mist you get out of them. It takes almost nothing to clog them. You should always use distilled water in these devices to prevent clogging. They also require very regular cleaning to stay clean and thus prevent them from becoming mold fountains. White vinegar and water should be used for cleaning. Avoid detergents as they can gum up the inner workings of the unit.

Need to find a replacement drainage line for my Aprilaire 600

You can purchase the tubing at most hardware stores or any HVAC supply store. They carry the vinyl plastic tubing and pvc pipe for drain lines.

The clear plastic drainage tube that runs from our Aprilaire furnace humidifier into the basement floor appears to be clogged with brown gunk. How can we clear this line.

One way of removing the gunk is to disconnect the tubing from the humidifier and use a flexible and thin rod that will fit in the tubing and try to dislodge it, or you can try using a shop vac and see if the suction pressure will remove it. If the tubing is really clogged then sometimes it's better to just replace the vinyl tubing with pvc pipe and drain it to the floor drain, I always prever pvc pipe over vinyl tubing when it comes to drain lines for humidifiers.

Why does so much scum and mold develop in the water tray and on the filter ?

Mold and algea form in the tray and filter of drum style humidifiers because humidifiers are a warm damp place, perfect breeding grounds! I suggest updating to a drain through style humdifier, as it does not allow water to sit stagnent in a tray. Hope this helps

Water pours out the tube from the lennox humidifier

A small discharge of water coming out of the bottom of an April Aire drain spud is normal. This feature constantly tries to rinse the system. This helps to prevent the possibility of mold or bacteria accumulating in the unit from standing water. It may appear to be alot of water. But be reassured that you are breathing in cleaner air. Now if it continues to drain constantly even when it is turned off then you should repair the unit.

Water runs out of humidifier drain line constantly(rushes out)

Most modern humidifiers use a constant drain to flush mineral deposits, and to keep the water fresh at all times. This keeps the unit from holding standing water. This keep the water fresh and prevents mold spores from infesting the air in your home.
